Just got the game (fps issues?)

Hey guys, I finally got the game but it seems that certain maps are much more heavy graphically than oman on the demo. I was wondering if there is some kind of demo I could run that would record the min, max and average fps by watching a prebuilt movie that utilizes the graphics. I believe this kind of stuff is called timedemos but I couldn't really find any file in the BF2 directory...

    Thanks for help

    no timedemos in this game.

you can however list your system spec and gfx card and i can suggest some decent settings for you.

      Buddy,

First of all read over this doco.

It may help with your performance of the game.

        Processor:
        Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz
        Memory:
        1 Gig
        Video Card:
        RADEON X1600 Series AGP 512MB

I used to run the demo at 1152x864 with everything on medium, 4x antialiasing, and high texture filtering. I have an LCD with a native at 1280x1024 so it would be best not to stray away from the 1152x864 while maintaining a constant 40 fps for me, if thats possible.

Edit: Thanks for the guide, Ill be looking at it meanwhile

          and high texture filtering

Thats the main problem texture to be set on high need 1.5gig of ram or more. drop texture and filtering on medium and you should be ok you could also try dropping shadows down, ten AA down to 2x try it in that order till u get good fps. it took me a while to find my perfect settings.

native 1280x1024? that would mean 1024x768 would look ok.

            so:
            1024x768
            terrain: low
effects: low (medium if u want to see jet vapour trails)
            geometry: high
            texture: low
            lighting: low
            dynamic shadows: off
            dynamic light: off
            anti aliasing: 4x
            texture filtering: low
            view distance: 100%

those settings should give you a hefty increase in fps.

Re: Just got the game (fps issues?)

Firstly run a defrag on the drive the game is installed on - this way the hdd will work less time to look for scattered files.

Secondly, try to close as many background applications you have running.

Why i say this is that bf2 normally uses over 1gig (or even more) (as iv did a few tests with my pc to see howm uch it uses. Iv got 2 gig and sometimes it hits 1.5gig or more at times)of ram. Now if uv got the OS using up the ram and all the applications, then your only going to be left with 600-700 for bf2.

Once the mem is used up, it then resorts to page swapping, meaning it will start using your paging file on the hdd which that will slow down the game.

Check to see your paging file size, if its too low, increase it abit.

But make sure u read that doco.

              Good Luck.

Is what your talking about the same thing they have in F.E.A.R, where they play a clip of a quick run through a portion of a level, and at the end they tell you all the statistics of how your computer handled that?

I can't get the benchmark to work, it only runs thru the intro movies and goes back to desktop
