Just because you havent had any problems, doesnt mean the general mass hasnt. Fact is, BF2 just isnt a game to be played competitively. Even ET:RTCW displays far more as a competitive game.

If you compare BF2 to CS for example, you understand why one is cut out as a competitive game, and another isnt.

Its just my opinion, but Im basing it off of what I believe to be good arguments.

this really should be in General Gaming, but if you wanted to see if it would be put on the front pages you have to post this in News Submissions 1st.

ski-jumping takes less skill than figureskating, and it's unreliable - contests may have to be postponed due to weather. Still they have both in olympic games.

besides, games in competitions aren't really chosen by such arguments as which has larger cone of fire, or say, weapon balance. Raw player numbers are way more important.

Wow, what the hell? You have missed the point completely. By reliable, I mean you need games with solid hit detection, no bugs, no crashes and such issues brought down to minimum. BF2 just isnt a reliable game. I suggest if you want to play smart, dont bring up stupid arguments, mmkay?

Yeah, whatever, tell that to people who play SC at WGC.

If you want to converse about it, stop being a jerk.

It still runs, every game has bugs and crashes, hit detection is WAY better in LAN. Just because some game is pinnacle of online competitive gaming, doesn't mean that some other game doesn't get a shot, no ? (that was the point of the dumb sport analogy)

Yeah, whatever, tell that to people who play SC at WGC.
SC has (well, at least had) a HUGE playerbase

anyway, I know what you're trying to say. BF2 is hardly best it could be when it comes to competition. But it's *good enough* - it's playable, and that's enough if you've got tons of players and some extra business running around it. There's lots of games that are arguably better team/individual games, but they never get a shot, because of too small and unreliable playerbase.

You know TBH, I think I should look into that. I would like to have a server full of very good players to push me to become better. It gets old having 2 very good players on the server. I find I always become much better when/after I am faced with challengers that are better.

I guess it is my fault for always playing on pub servers.

In a LAN enviroment BF2 is a different game. Most of the glitch, bugs, and CTDs we experiance are from it being played over the interent.

BF can be played as a competition. Only difference are the players, which actually can play it (unlike some people here). And many games turn boring in lan environment because hit detection is perfect, moving is sharp and accurate and you get stuck everywhere and so on. No game is perfect, but BF is pretty decent game for competing, only con are the multiple pathces, which almost killed it.

And player skill isn't determined by who has the best aim or other easily determinable factor. An ultimate aimbotter could just headshot everyone in ANY game, no matter if he has played five mins or five years, but still it doesn't happen because raw skill isn't the only way to win games. But better always wins, because winners are better. And in a match you play at least four rounds. There's very little room for lucky shots, more like lucky events, like guessing where the enemy is going now.

Had plenty of them all in LAN environment aswell.

Markan Dorka, you again missed the point, first of all "it still runs" isnt good enough, if theres an abnormall high chance of a such lame thing as CTD, secondly, it just isnt made for competitive game.

And StarCraft is chosen to be played at WGC not because its played a lot, but because it is the most skill demanding RTS next to WC3.

And this topic isnt really debatable either because the best vehicular based team game thats made for competitive play is almost out already, called QW.

You get everything that LAN offers, solid hit detection, solid missile detection.

This game is played in CAL, 8v8 open and main, 8v8 SA, 5v5 open, and POE2. That is more divitions than CS. It was at CPL. 8v8 is on season 5. the game WAS made for competition, but the patches made it go the way of the pubber. Now BFpro is out, It's really competition worthy, and worth a shot at WCG.

Actually I have. And Im saying what Im saying because Im actually looking at things from an objective angle. The only reason BF2 is played competitively is because theres no other alternative.

This game is played in CAL, 8v8 open and main, 8v8 SA, 5v5 open, and POE2. That is more divitions than CS.
More divisions because CS is a smaller game, (yet played more), theres no point in having more divisions in CS. Hell, there were games in TWL for example having far more divisions for SWAT4, didnt make it a better game at competition now did it?

It was at CPL. 8v8 is on season 5. the game WAS made for competition, but the patches made it go the way of the pubber. Now BFpro is out, It's really competition worthy, and worth a shot at WCG.
BF2 was never cut out to be a competitve game. You could have dogfights lasting tens and tens of minutes (which is great in pubs, but awful in matches), total explotation of hitboxes and total overuse of change in stances (which is fine by me personally, but competition wise its stupid).

And youre saying what? That BFpro would be the game played at WGC? Comeon. I love BF2 but lets be real here, CAL doesnt play it because its that awesome, CAL/CPL plays it because theres nothing else at the moment.
