Also anyone have a problem were you do spotted and nothing happens? Like lately Ill do spotted and the person/thing wont be spotted nor will my soldier even make a sound and say spotted.

I was just going to ask you all that same thing, it just happened to me like 5 minutes ago. I think it's lag, because my ping was spiking too, so :hmm:

I think spotting is one of the most useful things that you can do to help your team win! If you dont do it you deserve to loose.

A little side note to this, If someone spots an enemy and you cant see them press the "M" button and the whole map will pop up showing you who was spotted and where they are.

When you are in a fight its hard to see everything, as most vehicles have limited field of view (jets and choppers too). If someone doesnt spot the enemy you probably wont know that they are there untill its to late. This is very true for pilots because its not easy to see behind you while dog fighting. So help the friendlies, spot the enemies. I know that sounds corny but maybe you can remember it that way. . . . . . . . . .Red

Agreed. I think I commander could spot the 'prioity targets.

Yes. I guess that's really what I mean when I say a commander needs to spot. Some sniper sitting 500m away from everyone on the corner of the map is useless to spot. There are certain things that need to be spotted.

Just as [C*]Indest said. It's really helpful when trying to defend flags, or even just to kill/retaliate against the people who killed you. Sure you could look at what weapon it was, but it's helpful to know if it's one guy or 12 guys there.

100% agreed. I try and make sure I'm far enough that they can't hear me screaming. If I know I have more friendlies closeby, then that distance is reduced...

I normally spot, but alot of times it seems as if the feature doesnt work properly, like you'll clearly spot something 5-6 times & all you hear is "enemy forces spotted".

I used to not care but Ive only been playin BF2 for a month...haha Im already staff sergeant!

And Ive started getting used to spotting some1 before I even shoot at him....especially if three guys come around a corner I spot them all while I bunnyhop then go prone and try to nail them all...I can spot two guys in one jump.

Spotting = Know where enemy is = Team does better = Commander has better average score... basically that is it in a nutshell.

That gets on your nerves from the commander. If your a commander and there is a group of guys, don't spot them. Use a UAV, its so much easier.

So I was wondering how many of you love/hate/don't care for spotting? Personally I love spotting, and I love it when all the commander does is drop Supplies, UAV and continually spots the entire round AKA doing his job. And I'm sniper mostly, on city maps (let's be honest, mostly Kark) and I spot everyone I see, just to give my teammates a heads up. I've seen people b!tch out a commander because he wasn't spotting, and I've seen people cal lthe commander a noob for "spotting to much" (becaue knowing where our enemy is, is totally a dis-advantage to us) Now I agree the constant yelling is annoying but I play music louder than I have the volume anyway so that doesn't bother me. Your thoughts on spotting?

FYI hold "Q" and left click "spotted" to spot who ever is in the general area of your crosshairs, you don't have to go through the list and find "soldier". Not alot of people spot, and maybe it's because they don't know how? Well, now they do. :)

Spotting is very important. Why let others die on your team because of a failure to spot something?
As an AT, I appreciate any spots of tanks or other armor, so I can intercept, or find cover before I shoot them. What really pisses me off is a lone tank killing several of our teammates and killing me, and noone even spotted him to warn the rest of us, so I could at least do something about it.

What pisses me off also is when a commander does not spot that 'lone' enemy soldier, who caps our flag by himself. There is no excuse for that... so I look.... Oh, the commander is busy driving armor around.. or capping a flag... or fighting.. every single time.

PS. EA could have added the feature so that any spots on the map would only relate to your personally (as in a player radius) , so that you wouldn't have to hear spammed spots from units that you are nowhere near to..

I often spot enemy jets and choppers to help my teams pilots, cause in the end, it helps us both

I spot everything that moves in the weed. But seriously this spotting as useful as it is it sucks most of the time, I mean I look at the guy like 30 feet from me and all I see is a ? instead of a dot.

I use it a lot and I use UAV a lot it makes you aware where the dude is and if he's around the corner u can start preshooting to get him first hehe. I'm also the guy who goes after those who somehow sneaked around the main fight scene to cap the flag behind our backs.

Spotting is extremely important as a helo gunner, and it doesnt bother me at all for a commander to spam spot. Overall, spotting does way more good than harm ...do it.

Like most have said here I also spot just about everyone I see. I actually spot areas I am going sometimes to see if an enemy will be spotted. I think it is kind a cheap so I don't do it much. I do love when I see a guy way off and spot them, then see people on my miny map go after them. I also love spotting guys right in my face in case they duck around a corner I can tell if they are coming back out or going around the building.

Using a UAV is obviously easier, but what about when it's down? I don't mind a Commander spamming a bit - it's better than running into a squad of enemy, or a tank/apc etc without warning. I agree it can get annoying if it goes on too long, but when this happens I just turn the sound down a bit...

I spot whenever I get the chance, (I snipe a lot, and often have the opportunity to forwarn my teammates about enemy movements before they see them). The only thing I hate is when I mean to say spot a tank, but instead fire a shot, only to hear the *ping* of the round off the amour, and then see that turret swinging my way :)

Also, the "occasional" - "Enemy Boat Spotted" on a map like Karkand still brings a smile to my face
