Re: Weapon KDR realting to skill?

I have an assault rifle k/d ratio of 1.7 with well over 8,500 kills. I almost never play IO.

None of the stats show the skill of a player. At best they will be an indication of the players dedication towards a certain weapon, vehicle or kit.
Skill in this game cannot be defined solely on the basis of kills and deaths.

Yes. But just don't look at one, look at all the weapons (minus nades & claymores). It shows how skilled a player is without having to use a vehicle or nade spamming. Yes stat padding can occur, but unlikely if a person has over 50 hrs with that gun.

I feel good about having an LMG K/D of 3.12 with over 10k kills along with an assault rifle with a K/D of over 2.

Wow Jemme101, your K/D with sniper rifles is sick!

Don't forget learning curves. I for one started out when the game came out with a crappy rig and learning all the new stuff. I've noticed that over the last several monnths, I've gotten much better through praticing and a new gaming rig with high end stuff and my KDR's have gotten better. Age is also a factor. The refelexes of the younger players are sharper and they have ALOT more experience with computer games. I started playing this game when I was 36 so in some ways I was at a disadvantage with teh gaming experience and reflex thing. Us old dogs take longer to train too.

Stats don't show that as an AT class mainly, my main focus is going toe-to-toe with armored units and vehicles... when usually I have to take 2-3 shots for each, sometimes infantry gets in the way so I blast them, etc.

So am I less skiled than another player because my enemy is armored and 20 times more powerful than I am, so my KDR is different?

If it weren't for me actually playing AT on many, many rounds, there'd be no stopping the enemy tanks from rolling over every flag (which happens when I dont play AT - sigh... sometimes I like to play another class)

KD ratio has some indication in the area of the game people play but people seem to think vehical whores arnt skilled? lol

The difference between vehicals and infrantry is, infrantry has luck involved, vehicals dont.
I find infrantry can be horribly good or bad at times, dependin on your day lol.
Medics also change your KD ration, i have games with 30 kills 5 deaths, but i was revived over 15 times, surly that shows a problem with KD ration.
What ya need is a KD ration which dont include revives, + a score per minute for that weapon.
Ohh yer and if you use G36E you use baby weapon because it so overpowered lol learn ta use a real gun!!

Heli and Jet players tend to have some quite bad weapon kdr ratios. But a lot of them never play infantry. Alough I had over a 2.50 kdr on weapons when I was playing INF only but then I went back to using Jets and Helis again.

I've noticed even though I've died a lot say being tk'd before in the heli, or spawn/base raped trying to go for the Heli Jet, my KDR in weapons drops significantly due to that, even though KDR will remain the same due to getting a healthy amount of kills in the Jet/Heli.

So do you think that Weapon kdr's overall relate fully to skill?
If people whore helis and jets alot as well as doing a lot of infantry, it can take a chunk out of their weapon K/D from getting raped at the helipad / runway. Some people get out their knives, medpacks, grenades, etc. Some people do this, some don't. So it's quite variable.

Does Weapon KDR relate to skill? Absolutley. There are other stats to look at of course. And there are always people who for example fly jets all the time and don't care or don't focus on this kind of skill, but does it tell you something about the player, of course it does.

Why do you think statistics are so important in the modern world? Because they brake down individual behavior, skill, preferences what ever into comparable data. Don't listen to people who say stats say nothing, don't be a retard.

There are players who aren't that serious about that stuff, they are often more fun to play with but their stats still tell a lot about them.

Almost in every subject in university except maybe for the humanities/arts there's some point when you have to do statistics.

                    LOL.

Feel free to play a game with me and my "horrible" stats. You don't get to see the stats of players in-game aside from rank. You have absolutely no idea what kind of player someone is from looking at stats. Secondly, you cannot guess a player's stats based on playing with him/her alone.

I've played with plenty of high rank asshats. What does that tell me? He/She spent a long time playing. That's all.

Without their vehicles they're useless. Often times, even with their vehicles they're useless. Unfortunately because they've attained such a high level of 'skill', that they believe that the vehicles they've grown accustomed to have become rights and possessions of theirs. I've probably been TK'ed for a helicopter at least 50 times since I've started piloting and gunning.
Thats usually when I go back to ground pounding for the remainder of the round; unless I see a spare helicopter laying around doing nothing. Then I make my own squad, and solo until somebody joins my squad and hops into my heli.

Versatility is the most important thing to me. Proficiency in the use of every vehicle, and weapon speaks louder volumes about a person's 'skill' than the mastery of only one vehicle or weapon. (Unless of course you're in a tournament, and are guaranteed the use of your favorite vehicle.)

Of course, the mastery of every weapon and vehicle is better than both. (BushViper anyone?)
Here is some versatility for you all:

I'm not an ultimate score whore, I don't play for the points. I'm a moody player. Some times I just like to lay down and snipe, other time run capping flags or get airborne and dogfight. I can do them all pretty well. I know there are better players mastering each branch of the game than I can, but no too many who can cover them all quite well. (Okay that TV missile is still not near satisfactory but decent anyhow. Just need a good pilot to have chance to learn).

By the way Dairuka you have exellent stats. Like mine, but yours are even better. Only thing for you to be improved seems to be piloting jets.

The trick is to become proficient with all, and then master one. Thats what I plan to do. All I need to do is find the time.

Jets comes next. Right now I'm in my "helicopter" phase. I'm a decent gunner, but I've become an excellent pilot, so I've really been focusing on that area of expertise. I've also been dabbling in solo'ing, but it's an art that is not easily mastered, even if the majority of my kills come from it. I'm just not as good with the TV missle as I'd like to be... and it's extremely difficult to practice it on a live server.

Once I get 50 hours in, I'll definitally pull out my joystick, and jet whore it up.

Given this horrible experience trying to get those fifty hours so far, I'll probably never look back after I get my veteran badge... It's not that I can't pilot or gun, it's that I can't deal with the people who all want the Helicopter and produce pathetic results when they get the gunners seat.

I don't know how you guys deal with the smacktards.

I would consider myself medium skill level, definitely not pr0 le37 skailllzzz but I can still get uber-leet scores playing IO,

I was playing IO today on skunkdogz, and every single round as medic I got 100-150 points and my score was usually at least two times the person below me's score. This was after playing on waib for a few days, everything on ranked IO seems so easy after playing on waib, everyone seems to play slomo and they're all easy to hit, and all seem like noobs :p

I would not get these scores playing with vehicles on the map though, you just can't be as careless going rambo and reviving like mad with tanks on the map as you can in IO. It's very hard to judge people by their weapon K/Ds nowadays because playing with vehicles takes such a huge chunk out of your K/D while IO makes it so much easier to get uber leet scores.

Really, well look at my stats and see if you can glean how I play from reading them. Then I'll tell you if you're right or wrong in your assessment.

Yeah, I know. Last week I've spend few hours on a empty server practising soloing or having 1 vs 1 copter fight with my friends. I have noticed few mistakes I've made in the past and I'm getting better. I don't like soloing at all. I'm pretty good pilot so I know what helo can do in hands of a two skilled players, and it's much more than a single player can do.

With that versatility you mentioned. Usually I leave copter to others or like in Daqing Oilfields, try to cap the flag offering the second copter for our team. Sometimes I infiltrate enemy base with my reliable M95. It's the hardest way to take the copter, but the only one guaranteeing not to get teamkilled
