L9 is the best bolt action rfle, even though it's pretty much the SAME as the M24, the scope on the L9 is thinnr, making longdistance shots way easier.

85 hours as a sniper with 49% accuracy. I love sniper because I usually like to play lone wolf. Leading the target gets the kill. The one thing I pride myself on in BF2 is my long distance head shots. L96A1 FTW every time.

instead of starting another thread i was trying to use another video captureing programe zd soft game recorder got you have been kicked via punk buster [for 0 minutes]restriction multiple 3d loaded.
not sure if it was the programe or that i didint realise fraps was still on and the record hot key was the same had both running
would it be that i had two recording programes on or is it the zd soft game recorder
does anyone use zd soft game recorder

              M24>L96 because of accuracy.

Anywho, basically what I've gathered from reading this thread is that you need to shoot like you've had a couple of
              .

Or play after you've had a couple .

Sniper class does not own... the point of BF is to cap flags, and sniper by far has the hardest time doing them. the ONLY case where they are good is if one is camping the air vehicles with the M95, to prevent jet/helo to go into the air in some 64 player pub, but thats about it.

                  cheers for the laugh

The point of BF is teamplay. Capping flags is just a means to an end.

A noob which is holding a sniper rifle and TK-ing for vehicles is NOT a Sniper btw. He is a lamer like the gazillions of medics that spam medpacks everywhere but never revive when you are downed 3 feet away from them.

                      Re: Sniper Question. Read...

Today i was able to one man defend a flag.

I played sniper. it was on gulf of oman.. i was mec.. spawned at the really big tower thingy.. instead of climbing the tower like an idiot.. i stayed low and in good dark cover.. i was able to fully cover 2 flags by simply running accros the road whenever one flag was in need..

For armor.. i would target the armor and tell my jet buddies about it.. they would then bomb the armor..

Once a attack chopper with 2 folks inside was parking on top of the flag.. i didnt think it was really gonna work but i took a shot at the pilot.. he died and the plane went down..

I got credit for 2 kills and a flag defense.. it was pretty sweet..

also i had a blackhawk comming in for a flag.. one of the dudes parachuted out of the blackhawk and i had him dead before he ever hit the ground.

so i had quite the ammount of fun playing sniper tonight.. and even though i was a lone ranger in sense.. i still relayed info like a mad man.. and the pilots said that really helped them out.. not to mention the squads rolling around also...

so i sniper is a great lone defender in a sense.. and also a great support character...

You my friend don't know what you are talking about. Just few days ago, I single handed held Suburb spawnpoint over five minutes against 5 man medic group. It was their third attack when I have to draw back and delay their attack to Train accident. I took 26 kills before they got me first time. I don't call it owning, I call it skill. If you know your kit, the strengths and weaknesses and use it with some intelligence, you can go with slingshot and they can't touch you.

If the target is running, lead the target and adjust for bullet drop.

You shoot dead on a target when he is moving towards you or at a slight angle towards your general direction up to distances of 100 meters. When you exceed that distance you will have to compensate when the target is at an angle moving towards your general direction (aim ever so slightly in front). Same story for a target moving away.
When a target is moving sideways from your position you will have to compensate somewhat more as compared to the movement at an angle.

Added to that compensation you will have to factor in that aiming at a running target will require aiming even more in front. Your best shot at a moving target will be when he has stopped running. Less compensation means greater chance on a hit, because you will also have the deviation on the rifle to take into account.

All this stuff doesn't really matter that much in the short range battles you have in the city maps. You rarely get the chance to put anything I mentioned to great effect. It does start to matter when you move out into the country and play maps like Wake Island 2007 and my personal favorite Dragon Valley.
Although sniping over 300 meters at running targets from an elevated position is slightly more complicated

Watch some of the video's the WOoKie's posted --> HERE<-- and you will get the general idea.
i was the one being shot at in that video, it was made by Release^2 (on Xfire) one of the guys I play with all the time

it was on an empty Dallas-based ranked/punkbuster public server, our pings were about 20ms for me, 50ms for him

typical pub situation, nothing screwy about it

it's typical net code really, it affects a lot of multiplayer games, some compensate better for it

it doesn't happen in SP mode or LAN environments

edit: also watch the video reply it shows the same result..

I cannt explain what is happening in that vid of yours Boztech, but I have played BF2 for roughly 2000 hours now. I have NEVER aimed behind anybody from any distance (0 - 600 meters) in order to get a hit and I will never do so either.

All my hits & kills are made from leading targets and taking bulletdrop into account when I am further away than 150 meters (or from an elevated/lower position). Most of my pub time is when I am playing sniper so I do know what I am talking about since my sweet distance is around 250 meters.
