I'm wanting to build a new system for BF2.
I'm not totally happy with my current one.

AMD X2 4800+ w/ Zalman CNPS9500 Cooler
ATI Radeon X1900XTX
Asus A8N-sli
2 x 1 GB OCZ Platinum DDR 400 (2-3-2-5-1T)
Antec 550 Watt TruePower
Western Digital Caviar SE16 SATA 250GB
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic

It just doesn't run totally smooth on high medium or low settings with a ping of 50 or less. I'm puzzled. I'm getting little pauses every 15-30 seconds. It drives me crazy.
Is this common for people? Has any one got a system that runs it perfectly smooth? If so, I'd like to know what you're running.

Problem - Slow/Stuttering performance in Battlefield 2
Cause - Several possible Causes
Fix - This can be caused by several things so here are a list of things to try and improve its performance.
1. Check that your PC can handle Battlefield 2 at your current settings. Graphical lag can often be caused by not having enough RAM to play the game.
Low Settings - 1GB Ram
Med Settings - 1.5GB Ram
High Settings - 2GB Ram
In Addition you will need a processor and graphic card capable of handling the game at the higher settings.
So try lowering your settings to see if performance improves.
2. De-frag your Hard-Drive
3. Try cleaning out your shaders and cache, to do this, go to C:\Documents and Settings\username*\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2 and delete the shaders,
next go to C:\Documents and Settings\username*\My Documents\Battlefield 2\LogoCache and delete the cache.
Try Battlefield 2 again to see if it is better, if not, move your battlefield 2 folder from my documents to your desktop, this put the game onto default settings, as well as cleaning out its cache and shaders again.
4. Run Adware/Spyware Scans on your PC to remove unwanted software running in the background. Recommended tools for this are;
Adaware
Spyboy : Search & Destroy
Windows Defender
Spyware Blaster
5. Use this Program - PCI Latency Tool. Download and install it. Use it to try setting your graphic card latency to 64 or 128 if it is at a higher number. This can help Improve performance on some systems.
6. Use task Manger to close down unnecessary background tasks, also turn off/disable you anti-virus and firewalls to see if they are the cause of the problem.
7. Re-Install the latest version of Directx from the Microsoft Website, then move your battlefield 2 folder from my documents to your desktop, and see if it helps.
8. Use Driver Cleaner to remove your old graphic card drivers and install a new set for your graphic card, then move your battlefield 2 folder from my documents to your desktop, and see if it helps.
9. Check the bios to see if you have given the correct about of Memory to the AGP slot if on a AGP card, i.e. 256mb of Memory if its a 256MB card. On some systems this may help on others, it may not help but just use up more RAM.
10. In BF2 Audio Options, try running software mode instead of hardware mode.
11. Disable/Add BF2 to DEP
To turn it off do this
Right click on my computer
Select properties
Select the advanced tab
Select performance options
Select the data execution prevention tab
Add BF2.exe to the list of exceptions OR turn DEP off completly.
Reboot

I might add that having all the hardware and configuring it is one thing, but optimizing it to really really sing is another. Try this guide.

I have a very well built system I just upgraded to when the 8800 came out. I can run BF2 @ All highest settings with AA set up. Here are my specs.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700
TWO BFG GeForce 8800 GTS
2 Gigs of OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 ATI CrossFire Dual Channel (http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...e_dual_channel)
Four 250GB Sata II Seagate Hardrives.
Antec Trio 650 Watt Power Supply.

...And well, the rest is really prefrence...

Even though I can run my system in SLI mode, I don't simply to have dual monitor support till I purchase another card for that. 1 of these cards are so powerful they can run pretty much any of the games out @ its highest settings.

ur specs should def be able to play bf2 all high with like 70fps in heavy battle..there must be something wrong maybe with like drivers or spyware etc

?? ATI's flagship card. second best gaming vid card in existance right now, how might that be holding him back? i have an x1950pro prolly half as powerfull as the xtx and can run any game out there maxed right teh fuk out.

I've got the latest drivers and clean spyware with four different anti-spyware programs pretty often. My bios and chipset drivers are updated. I was wondering if it was the dual care cpu. I have heard that Battlefield 2 was not compatible with dual cores. If thats the case wouldn't a patch fix that though and what about all the core 2 duo's? Maybe it's just a odd hardware combo or something.

I did do step 11 from reply #2 and it seemed to help.

I run BF2 on high settings (when I say high I mean everything video wise is on high and my sound/audio is on ultra high) and I don't have any lag at all (the graphics just aren't all that they could be). My computer is as follows:

Operating system: Windows media center 2005
Video card: ATI Radeon X1300 PRO 256mb
RAM: 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz- 2DIMMs
Hard drive: 160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache
Sound card: Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic with Dolby 5.1

You have a way better graphics card than me, the model processor just under mine and you have 2GB, so I don't really know what your problem is, but it's not your computer hardware. You certainly don't need to build a new computer!

You might try getting so anti virus software and running it. Defraging your hard drive, closing any programs that you don't need running in the backround and if nothing seems to help then I have no clue. :hmm:

I had a X1900XTX with a 4800+ and 2 gigs of ram. The system ran everything on high @ 1600x1200, so I have no idea what he is complaining about unless there was a configuration problem.

What I have now (see below) has NO restrictions. :)

oh... your hardware is like mine (apart the RAM: you have 2 gb and i have 1,5 gb) ... but i must set the graphics on a low\medium level and sometimes isn't completly smooth. an higher graphic level would make the game awfull. how can you run smooth at high setting? which ati drivers have you?

I just removed webroot spy-sweeper and it made a huge difference. no more pausing!!!!! I'm just gonna use some other free anti-spy programs instead.

yeah u dont need programs to scan in the background as it really hurts ur performance overall.
