I don't think PR will go to a Sci-Fi type game, they have to be realistic off a game that has things which are real, thats where Realism comes in. LoL that prob didn't make sence.

I think it depends what you want out of BF2 , if you Medal Ribbon Badge humting then your gonna be playing it week in and week out for a few years to come .

The servers we all play on have to be paid for by someone ,, that someone one way or another is you and I . I suppose when these servers have very little participation then BF2 will die , persoanly i think it has maybe 2 years left in it from now ?????

BF2142 is loosing plaers hand over fist at the mo , my clan all but deserted
BF2 for 2142 but have come back in droves over the last few weeks . The game play is so much better .

I think Sloi has a great point ( sorry Sloi , no chopper whoring in ET ) this will be the next big challenge that BF2 with have in numbers of players along with UT2007 .

One things for certain 2007 is gonna be a great year for PC gamers .

Why is everybody so hyped about ET:QW? I'll lol, when it ends up having more bugs than BF2! Anywho I don't think it will live as long as BF1942 (which still thrives) has been living, but another year or so, and we will really see the #'s drop .

I've been through with BF2 for 4 months. Waiting on Quake Wars or Frontlines: Fuel of War or Crysis.
We'll see how squad based Crysis is.

If you know anything about the BF series, you know that the original developement team that created Desert Combat & Battlefield 2 left EA/DICE right after BF2 was released and DICE's dev team took over. They have their own studio, are publishing through THQ, using the Unreal 3 engine for a new title called Frontlines:Fuel of War. Should be one of the better squad based shooters this year.

Frontlines looks awsome , hope its not an XBOX port though and was primarily written for the PC ? I looked at the Video and it looks a killer game

It's suppose to be a PC title first, then ported over to the consoles. Here are some great links to give you more facts about the why the original developers of BF2 left EA/DICE and started working on this title and how the PC version will differ from the console versions

I used to hate the idea of ET. Admittadly I still don't like it, but you're right, it'll steal BF's wind.

I think because of how good of a year it'll be for squad based shooters, it's still in the air.

there have been many threads on this for awhile and most people have been saying a year to a year and a half. It will eventualy die out but I bet in 3 or 4 years there will still be a few good servers

BF2 will die 4 seconds after it is no longer profitable to rent ranked servers to people and they stop renting to people. Kind of like a controlled life cycle i.e. being able to artificially control the life cycle of a product by eliminating a key element of its usefulness by removing its supply to the market. This view is a little cynical but it may happen when it is to the company's advantage.
