    new custom made computer lags?!?!

i just got a brand new custom made computer to play bf2 and it lags really badily.....

    my old pc was a
    2.4 cpu
    768 mgbs memory
    40 gb hard-drive
    5600 nvidia graphics
    270 psu
and the mobo...they didnt even make them anymore lol...

    my new pc is...
    64 x2 dual core 2.4 (4.8) cpu
    512 mgbs memory (atm)
    60 gb hard-drive
    2 x 7600gt xpert-vision graphics
    550 psu
    £90 mobo

on my old pc i cud play bf2 and it wud lag a little bit every now and then... i cudnt play counterstrike source... now i can play counterstrike source (whilst running 3 runescape classic bots)-if you no what they/it is please explain to different membrs of the community-
but wen i go on bf2 it loads a lot fast but the achual game runs really jumpy and slow.. on my old pc i played all settings on 'low' on my new pc i HAVE to play all settings on low (and it still lags + jumps!) my computer is protected by ntl and norton and is (as wat i no) virus free..
could anybody suggest a possible reason for why its lagging?!? thanks -topps-

You need more ram. I would recommend at least 2 gigs these days, to run at sweet graphics.

unsure if that graphics card is on the list of supported cards and at least a gig of ram in total is necessary (for non laggy low video settings). also something about dual procesors makes bf2 nervous and not want to work well (i think, someone who knows please comment).

512 meg of ram can make any system laggy. At least if you try to run anything above very low.

Brian's most likely got it. 512MB is way to skimpy for this game. 1GB minimum and 2GB for freedom.

rofl. Unsure? a 7600GT can run all high without AA EASILY. I have one and it runs the game at almost high. I'm now at medium and 4X AA at 1280X1024. And I still have a nice fps!

I think it's the RAM and I've heard that BF2 has problems with SLI Mode what if you turn one off try and see if that works if you know what you are doing

Those cards should run sweet, I run 2 6600GT ok. I'd say more RAM at least a gig more and you should be OK.

If you need any suggestions for RAM, you can always make a new thread here at the tech-center.

Going to 2gb(2x1gb) of RAM would be your best option. DO NOT use 4 sticks of RAM since AMD cpu's have issues with doing so.

Re: new custom made computer lags?!?!

For Corsair memory use their search: Find the Right Module

I'm sure every major site has the same type of "finder", Kingston, Geil, etc etc. Or ask around, either way find out the correct ram for your board.

If your running a 939 or AMD2 Mobo, I highly recommend selling the single stick of 512 and getting a match pair of 1024 sticks.

There might be a cheaper way out of it, but you'd have to do some fine tuning with additional sticks of 512 (unless you can match them perfectly). Or at least that's what I've read so I almost always opt for new ram, unless it's a direct transfer to a very similar mobo.

Was the 512 stick left over from the old machine? It's probably not worth saving it, as it's not the best match for the new chipset/mobo. It might even be detering from performance right now if that's the case. A new "matched" stick of 512 would probably even do better. But BF2 is a memory hog and wants lots of it and want it fast too.

And yes from everything I've read you'll see a good performance leap. Your dual 7600's are plenty for running the game with a decent resolution (1280x1024) with quite a few bells and whistles. How many? That's unknown, but certainly more (if not much more) then what your running now.

No need to panic, you just need more (and possibly new) ram.

Cloaker knows his stuff. Don't go with four.

Unless you get us the exact Mobo manufacturer and model and exact type of ram there's really no way of telling if it's a good move. Even if it is, 2 1GB sticks are usually better then 4 of the same in 512, even if they are identical in speed, and brand

I don't know my stuff and that's my recommendation too. From everything I've read most boards do much better with 2 sticks of 1GB rather then four of 512.

I couldn't tell you why technically, some other will be able.

RAM is one of those things when building rigs you just have to sacrifice to get the most out of your machine. I have sticks of PC 100, 133 DDR2, DDR400 and PC-2700 hanging around all over the place. I usually give one of the sticks away to a friend for an upgrade and end end up with an odd ball.

I save them. I have no idea why.

Is this DDR2 or DDR ram?

If its DDR2 then i would get a new 1gb stick for now. Then when you get the money i would sell the 512mb stick and buy an identical 1gb stick giving you 2gb (2x1gb).

I couldn't even run BF2 with 512 MB of ram. 1GB was fine for me on high settings with AA off.
