I have 4 512mb sticks in my pc

when you have an AMD cpu it causes the RAM to go to 333mhz instead of higher speeds which is not so good especially if you have DDR2 RAM

The main problem with having 4 512mb Sticks is the loading times its 10-15 seconds slower than having only 2 sticks however the effect on framerate is minimimal probably 2-3 frames per second more with 2 sticks if your getting say 90fps

What also happens when ur running 4x512mb sticks is that it goes to 2T, which is like not having dual channel.

LOL - seriously, 512mb memory didn't raise flags when you were trouble shooting in your head?

Also - don't gradually increase your memory - I'd recommend going straight to 2 gigs to ensure all the memory is the same brand, etc. I definitly noticed a performance increase from 1 -> 2 gigs.

Download and install the "AMD dual-core optimizer" too. It can be found on the chipset web site.

But you still need more RAM. I just installed a 2x 1GB kit of Corsair XMS (upgraded from a single 1GB stick of stock RAM), and it really screams. I'm first or second in on most maps now. Great for the developing jet whore.

Unless you get us the exact Mobo manufacturer and model and exact type of ram there's really no way of telling if it's a good move. Even if it is, 2 1GB sticks are usually better then 4 of the same in 512, even if they are identical in speed, and brand

I don't know my stuff and that's my recommendation too. From everything I've read most boards do much better with 2 sticks of 1GB rather then four of 512.

I couldn't tell you why technically, some other will be able.

RAM is one of those things when building rigs you just have to sacrifice to get the most out of your machine. I have sticks of PC 100, 133 DDR2, DDR400 and PC-2700 hanging around all over the place. I usually give one of the sticks away to a friend for an upgrade and end end up with an odd ball.

I save them. I have no idea why.

The 7600s are fine. Definitely listen about the 4x512 thing with the RAM. I had an Intel proc before and from then figured two dual channel kits would mean faster, low latency RAM. Then my mobo throttled it down and pissed me off quite a bit. Still, 2GB of RAM for me runs BF2 quite well. I'm running with my setup at 1600x1200 all high at a darn good framerate. It would be mo' betta if I could convince the wifey to let me get 2x1GB instead. It would just be gravy at this point, so I don't even try too hard to push it.
It does suck to run DDR 400 at 333MHz, though.

Off Topic: I totally have spare RAM sticks all over from every machine I've ever built. I packrat that shiot along with HDDs and fans and even a nasty old case. I even have burnt out mobos and CPUs I don't really need, too. Oh, and an OLD Geforce 440 MX POS. I just can't throw computer gear away, it's a form of OCD I swear!
