Re: Road To Jellybeans: Now that it has simmered

    Never met a BF2 map I didn't like.

I voted 5. It's not my favorite but since I like most maps for one reason or another it doesn't get a low number either.

Walking distance spawn points on maps always makes for some good firefights, but tends to become a lose and regain type situation. Lose Market , get market back, rinse and repeat.

The short distances also make defending harder (not a bad thing for action people). But from a strategic stand point it's hard to hold off the Mongol hoards.

Normally me and the boys try and take Mosque keep it and destroy assets. Or vice versa , defend it from being taken. Running from Junk to Fountain or Hotel to Market , over and over again gets a tad monotonous after awhile.

Although keeping Mosque without having Market can be a pain (see Mongol Hoards).

The choke point behind Junk can be fun to mine off and defend. Doing the roof top SL with a supply crate can be fun. There are a couple roof tops that are fun to fiddle with.

It's a map, that has a character all it's own. Like most maps it has some good points and some bad.

....so ya I've grown to hate it. It seemed good when it first came out, but now....
That is exactly how I feel, as I said in my above post, but you made the most important point that I did not. It was great brand new. I played it 45 hours in the first 2 months it was out, and I now hate to play it.

i would like to take back that 4 i gave it, and give it more of like......an eight or nine.......this map really is great, its just unfortunate that BF2 in general somehow attracts the nade whoring bunny hopping medic/support whoring etc. type of players......i know its supposed to be arcade, but this really is another topic yeah.....

in my mind, i know if all the players worked well in their squad, used voip, and had effective commanders, and did not resort to all those lame tactics as nade spammin bunny hoppin etc..this map would be loads of fun.........just like it is on PR

Re: Road To Jellybeans: Now that it has simmered

Vehicles - 16 playered map - Great balance. The map is very small, but each flag is easily defendable fairly. The corridors make it difficult for tanks to manuever, which helps infantry to dominate all but the best tank operators.

Infantry Only - 16 playered map - Perhaps the most balanced Infantry only map in this game. Somebody once commented that this is a horrible 5 vs 5, and 8 vs 8 map? It's probably because he sucks at it. I can name only two other maps which even closely resemble this balance on a "Vanilla" 16 playered IO map. (Mashtuur City, and Gulf of Oman)

Vehicles - 32 playered map - Disgustingly horrible balance. With the lake flag gone, there really isn't anything to stop the USMC from invading from the north. Even AT mines, claymores and C4 spam wouldn't do the trick due to the rather poorly thought out cover on MEC's side of the river crossing.

Infantry Only - 32 playered map - Not all that good. USMC again has the advantage with the northern lake flag spawn gone. You also can't ignore the fact that with one less spawn in control of MEC, that it takes less for USMC to stop the ticket bleeding; which means they have a very large advantage in starting tickets as a result.

Vehicles - 64 playered map - I don't get why people are complaining that the Mosque is hard to defend. One person playing as a Spec Ops is really all it takes to keep an entire army from taking this spawn point. It's not like you won't get much action here, I can almost guarantee that the majority of the best fights in the game WILL be here.

Infantry Only - 64 playered map - Decent balance despite complaints. One good squad can penetrate from either the north or south around MEC's flanks without too much effort or trouble. Once USMC is in, then it becomes a huge - lingering - heart wrenching - mind racking battle to the last ticket between the two factions. Essentially it's a lot of fun. Just avoid the grenade rocks between the USMC uncap, and the Northern Lake flag and you'll do fine. If you're a lemming and you hide there, it's almost guaranteed that you'll be grenaded; I'd say it's almost exactly like the hotel; it's just not, because one decent sniper is all it takes to clear a grenade spam crew.

                My rating?

                4/10 for balance.
8/10 for kit playability. (Spec Ops gets the shaft at every flag except the Mosque. Unless you Jihad Jeep.)
                9/10 for fun factor.

                Overall - 7.5/10

Re: Road To Jellybeans: Now that it has simmered

The map itself is not that bad, what makes it bad is the players. Playing tonight, team not doing toooo bad, but not great, JalalaBAD starts and 90% of our team goes sniper, and of course sits there not getting flags, getting pushed back into their main (US) and then wonders why they are getting baseraped. Hmmmm, I know, because they all sucked, and sucked even worse at sniper, being the most useless kit in the game, especially on a map when you HAVE to assault the enemy. What is it about this map that makes people think they should sit and sniper badly?

The sniper kit is for advanced players only. You can't jump, prone and instantly kill somebody like you can with an AK-101.

I'm not sure if I'm a real sniper for saying this; but as a sniper on this map, I do more than assault the enemy. I humiliate them.

The same thing that makes people spawn medics, and support at the Hotel in Karkand. It 'looks' like it's easy points.

I consider myself a proficient sniper now, so I can safely say... That it is NOT easy points. You gotta work your arse off, and you can not get closed in at the USMC base. The best way to earn points is to take the Junkyard, or Hotel flag behind MEC lines, and snipe all the morons who come running to retake them.

You just can't admit that you suck with a sniper rifle, so you make fun of it.

You're no better than the public server players you mock.
