Well, people who can't shoot are kinda useless on the battlefield. But you're right, bf isnt' just IO, but most of everything in bf is infantry and it's the most important factor. I thought IO would finally teach people infantry combat, but I was partially wrong, some people only learned nade spamming and other IO clichés.

And people who master IO and their rifle, most often own everyone else. No matter what game mode.

      Not much to "love".

BF2 simply isn't a very good individual shooter.

Maps layouts are not designed to be covered on foot. Or to be fought for or defended on foot.

Lots of floppers. Which I don't care if some one does because I'm an "out of the box" advocate. Personally though from an immersion stand point it ruins the game to see so many people doing it. It's not that I do any worse or better against floppers, but too many ruin the aesthetics of the game. It's a great looking game graphically a really good "simulation" of real life scenery, then you see the apposing squad hopping and leaping, jumping and flopping, it's like playing against an epileptic Delta Force.

      What's OK?

Some cool teamwork, although it's mostly reviving and reviving and rev...... well you get it.

No worries about a dominant pilot with no ACE pilot on your side to counter him. Sort of a radical way of dealing with it, but it works.

I've never had a problem with "vehicle whores" in Vanilla BF2 (other then pilots), a few AT round and some deaths usually solves that problem. But it's nice break not to have to go through all that.

        That's how DICE balances things.

Getting rid of them completely :p.

My point stands, IO mode killed BF2. If DICE knew what was best for the series, they would scrap it ASAP, but I fear its too late.

Seriously, I don't want to slam on everyone here, but the whining about nade spamming and excessive medics is just that... whining. And whining usually is the result of frustration, and frustration is the result of not being able to counter a strategy. So basically, if you were winning against nade spammers and tons of medics, you wouldn't complain, you'd laugh about how lame they were and how good you were at embarrassing them. But you're not... you're just whining.

Personally, there are only two kinds of medics- those who are really good and know what they'e doing, and those that suck. If you can't kill 'all those medics' either most of them are good, or ... you need more practice. We've all been there.

Nade spamming isn't something I personally engage in or worry about, because a) I'm not in the usual areas for being a nade spamming victim and b) I'm already flanking all the nade spammers. Remember, they might be nade spamming, but they're normally doing it all from the same basic spot, to the same basic spot. No nade spammers throw grenades in areas they don't think they're going to get a multiple-kill. That's where I run...

IO imho would be more fun with some transport jeeps (w/ or w/o the mounted lmg's), but even so, it really helps focus squad tactics. If you don't see that, then perhaps you're not playing with the right people.

I didn't post this to incite malicious responses; thoughtful criticisms, however, are encouraged. If you got your ego bruised reading this, it's likely you take BF2 a little too seriously.

              Let the flames begin.

Fact that its CSS+AA? I mean what is Battlefield if its not got vehicles? The franchise was built of that. This feature was cool for some that I guess came from CSS, and AA. I bet the DC fans and Vietnam fans didn't like it to much. Then again probably is a few that do.

                Thats my two cents.

I agree with most of your points (as I dont play Karkand, or city maps in general), but sometimes the grenade spamming can get a bit bad, especially if your getting naded at spawn or something.

But yeah, definatly correct, people have to stop whining about IO crap. Its an awful gamemode already...

Grenade spam is generally a localized thing. There are only certain areas where it is prevalent.

In the wide open spaces, grenade spam is an ineffective tactic that only leaves the person who tries to abuse it wide open to a bullet to the head.

IO is easy mode for me, because there are so many easy targets like this.

Exactly. With so many unskilled players no longer wrapped in their cozy vehicles, they end up running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Talk about a target-rich environment.

Then every once in a while you jump into an I/O map where the squads are actually clan-lead and people are following orders. Suddenly it's almost not BFStupid anymore... no more waves of idiots. Instead, squads pick their own objectives to defend (not necessarily attack), move judiciously from flag to flag, and show some semblance of order. And what do you know? The game actually gets interesting...

                      It's rare, but it happens.

The action seems to be more focused in IO, making for some very intense firefights!

The things I love about IO is getting a good squad together, and runnin and capturing points reviving each other, and watching my squadmembers running into a flag while I lay down support fire and revive them so we can keep the squad moving.

Problem with IO is for some reason the traditional city maps are the only ones being run. I enjoy some of the larger maps in 16 player size for something different.

If you hate IO so much then all your doing is playing Karkand at the hotel area. I love being US and taking a squad to the back flags, thus ruining the point fest up front.

Or as Mec try defending either the suburb or the train accident area, your not going to score 300 points per hour, but its far more enjoyable than that fiasco going on at the hotel
