I like the ranking system, I like following my stats and recieving a little png image with a drumroll now and again. So what? I think it adds to this game. If you want to avoid stat padders and Karkand whores then find a nice well run server with a good map rotation and stick to it.

Complete uninstall, reinstall, patch up, install Project Reality Mod v0.4. Hook up mic, enable VOIP. Register at realitymod.com, get practicing, get online, get playing. Twice the game vBF2 is.
Yes we're aware of the mod, I'm very aware of it from PRM players/makers constantly coming on here, moaning about BF2 and then offering it up on the third page of a thread as this magical solution. If I want to play it I'll download it, stop trying to shove it down peoples throats.

          1. perhaps you DIDNT click it
          2. perhaps its the fact that your computer cant handle the game, and thats why it crashed...dont blame EA for a game that works for everyone else.
          3. Why shouldnt they give you ONE advertisement for THEIR stuff on THEIR game?

One thing always do, after you install a game or download one, restart your PC, it needs to reboot, then it won't CTD

I think it's more like adds to the individual E-penis. IMO that's the problem nowadays, people no longer play the game because they like to play the game, they play it to gain meaninless ranks. That's why you see idiots Tking for gunner seats, nade spamming etc..Very rarely I see/read threads about how cool this or that maps is/content etc.., majority of threads in BF2:142 forums is regarding ranks.

BF1942/DC didn't have ranks/unlocks yet it was very popular. I remember reading many thread regading maps/contnet (not all positive), nobody cared about points or getting points of he/she healed/repaired vehicles etc..

That's been said since the start of the game though. Maybe some people do play purely for the points, I couldn't care less. I don't, but I don't think the points system is a detriment to my gameplay either, if anything it adds to the experience. Fact is you'd get all this shoddy behaviour anyway without the stats system.

Ive had a look around, and Im far from the only one with these issues.

I know how to select a kit, Ive been playing the demo for 18 months, and it too, did this occassionally. In fact, the retail copy did this three times in a row.

My computer isnt abeast, but its perfectly adequate for running this game, and no offense, but the old, 'your computer musnt be good enough' line is total weak sauce.

I clicked a link to take me to the BF2 patch site, instead it took me to a general BF page plastered in BF2142 on ever spare pixel.

Fair enough. Do you overclock your cpu/gpu by the way bf2 doesn't like it at all. So what happens when you uninstall/reinstall? can you recreate the problem each time?

                          No overclocking on any component.

I havent deleted and re-installed yet, this HDD was formatted before I installed BF2.

im not doubting the fact that you know how, just simply suggesting that it could have been an accident

"weak sauce" or not, if your video card were to simply overheat it will cause a game to crash (assuming you have a good card that has override...and i would think a 7600 does)

my point is that the quality of battlefield 2 is the same for everyone. to say that those problems are all EAs fault aint right (though it may be partially)

Your 7600 should run bf2 pretty well. This is what you have to do. Sorry if you know all this already
                              1-Start menu > Control panel > add/remove programs
select bf2 and any add ons like special forces, or bf patches if they show up
2-reinstall bf2 but this time to a different location than last time you installed it.
3-download the patch 1.41. You can get it from any site, even look it up on google. It should be about 500 megs in size (put some coffee on!)
4-run the patch and let it do its dirty work.
5-Start bf2 and if you still have those exact problems post back

It looks like I'll have to give that a go Dad.

Also, after playing the demo and going to 4.1, everything feels, 'slow'. Its as if everything in the game has been nurfed, for instance it takes so long to go prone, you're dead before you can get half way down.
