I'm getting sick of the bad rep the GL is getting. My friend hates the grenade launcher, he says its noob and cheap when the only gun he uses is G36E and he bunny hops, it piss's me off something fierce =P
So, what do you think of the grenade launcher?
Weird timing...i hardly ever use the assault class (only got about 20 hours in the 750 total hours i've got) I got my expert sniper, support and spec-ops so have been using other classes to get the hours in.
Anyway have been using the F2000 and the AK-101 with the GP-30 for the last couple of days and at first couldnt hit anything with the grenade launcher. Then the penny dropped and now cant miss!!!! Satisfying to see the enemy at a distance and switch to the GL, allow for trajectory and bang!!! :)
So my opinion...really good once you got used to it.
In 9/10 cases, someone that calls a weapon "noob" is for two reasons. They keep getting owned by it and get pissed off and frustrated, switch to it themselves and find that tehy cant use it effectively so label it noob instead and pretend its "too easy" to use and that they supposedly prefer a challenge
I think that is acceptable to use a grenade launcher when there is more than one foot soldier in the target area and the target is of some (say at least 20m) from the GL user.
I hate getting killed by users in CQC, it is especially annoying in FF off servers where they don't get killed by the grenade launcher that they fired at there own feet.

Lol, i find that irritating too. They just walk around with it likes its a primary, shooting at their feet and getting the kill. Apart from that i agree with the OP, if you know how to use it, its extreemly effective.
C4 could also be mentioned with FF off, how they just drop and detonate, getting the kill and just leaving the ground slightly!
Although I have over 120 hours as assault I still have to "master" the GL. I always avoided using it till I met some good infantry player who kept killing me with it constantly. So I switched to the F2000 to try it out and managed to even out the battlefield a bit. Went on for some rounds with it and started to get the feeling for the GL.

Exactly it's all about improving. There's not a weapon in the game i would label a "noobs" weapon. If i getting owned by a specific weapon i will change my tactics to overcome it and/or learn how to use that weapon effectively. I use to think the AT class were full of people that couldnt use real guns and ran around with the SRAW/Eryx out the whole time. Been using the AT class a lot recently, 80+ hours, and have found the DAO-12 is a fantastic weapon!!!
I like the GL. At one time it was quite effective but after some many people cried it was nerfed. then, rightly so, it was disabled inside a certain distance so a guy couldn't launch at his feet and then hop to avoid the splash damage but killed the opponent. Seems to me, however, that that patch was reversed with a later patch becasue I have been getting killed by toobers shooting at the ground in front of us with only me dying. They also minimized the splash damage quite a bit from the original game due to whiners crying that it was unrealistic. Other than that I like the weapon.
besides the fact its got the blast radius of a mild fart, it isnt all that bad. I play alongside someone who has 25,000 nade kills daily. the other team usually doesnt stand a chance if me and him got 203's anywhere near Market or Hotel. If your just walking around shooting it at your feet because you cant use bullets is just sad.
my opinion of the GL and the assault class all together is that it's useless. not because i think it's noob or that i get owned by it all the time (which is far from the case, check my stats). it's because it's just a really useless class. it's heavily dependent on the medic and support classes. the only things assault is good for is the job it's intended for, killing, which doesn't always help the team. the medic class should be the assault class. infact, i wouldnt mind seeing the assault class be melded into the form you see in bf2142 where you have to unlock the medic box to give medical attention and same goes for the shock paddle. it's like training to be a corpsman. that is one of the few things i like about bf2142. i would love to see the GL as an unlock for assault class instead of always being on the weapon.

No, you get a Med Kit automatically. There's an "advanced" Med Kit you can unlock which basically just treats more teammates faster.
i like it, and i dont have a problem with it for the most part.its only when its in the hands of a noob when it is in fact a noob tube. for example, noobs run up and shoot it when you are about 4 feet away. skilled(sometimes very lucky) people actually use it at a distance, which isnt noob like. my favorite GL kills have been the two times that ive hit a smoking car driving full speed in the opposited direction of me
