Bear with me, it's been a few years since I played 1942, but as I recall, when bringing up the scope (in 1942) your sights would take a second to steady, then will remain fixed in place (until closed down) - in the first second, it moved as if you were taking a breath.

Once the scope was 'steady' wherever you placed the the dot in the center, is exactly where the round went, as some have said, as accurate as a laser beam.

I think you may be thinking of America's Army for scope movement whilst breathing, as this has both vertical and horizontal movement, both of which can be somewhat 'cut down' by putting down your bi-pod.

    Scort.

        Re: Very dissapointed...Shocked...

I have 2142 (and BF2 for that matter) installed on two different harddrives. One installation has Intel Core 2 Duo ads on most of the billboards. The other installation, for whatever reason, has zero ads and has never had an ad, ever. I don't know exactly why this is but it's mildly amusing, to me at least. :p

The ads are not spyware. This is, predictably, a blatant attempt to slander the game and it's tedious and factually inaccurate. It's adware, and it determines what country you're in and how long you spend viewing the ads. From what I understand, Australians receive zero ads because of a governmental policy.

So far the only other ad I've seen is for the upcoming Discovery Channel documentary "Future Weapons" that is debuting in January '07. These type of ads do not, in any way, negatively impact my gaming experience. DICE also has plenty of gag ads that add personality to the game. Stuff like a Most Wanted billboard that has the #1 ranked player's name and his "last known whereabouts" is top notch stuff, in my opinion.

Would I rather the adware not be in the game? Yeah, probably. Is it spyware? C'mon, next thing you'll tell me that playing 2142 is aiding and abetting terrorism. There's plenty of legitimate reasons to dislike 2142. Spyware isn't one of them.

Ever been shot at?? Throwing yourself on the ground is probably one of the smartest things you can do, (other than throwing yourself behind something).

Seriously, I have been playing this game a lot over the last, hmmmm, 10 months or so, and am pretty sure I have re-couped my $50 in entertainment.

Maybe I take a slightly differant perspective having played computer games since Star Raiders on the Atari 800, (remember thinking "It can't get better than THIS!!!). When Wolfenstein came out in the 90's I think I thought again, "It CAN'T get any better than this". Well it did get better, and will continue to get better as hardware and programming march forward.

Anyway, so far BF2 has the right mix of elements that I enjoy, these being FPS aspect, lots of differant vehicles (all operational, not just a lovely bitmap), guns, teamwork (on the right servers), and visuals. If a better game with these elements comes along, well I'll give it a try. Until then I don't see too much value lingering on the "Coulda Woulda Shoulda". Nothing wrong with discussing things, just trying to keep things in perspective. It is in the end a game after all. :)

            Err... no it didn't.

I think it was the Lee Enfield sniper rifle (was there a US one??? don't recall ) that had a small dot right in the centre of the sight, all you did was wait a second for the gun to steady, then put said dot onto a target and 10/10 the round would hit.

I'm not a good sniper in BF2, but the fact that they added round drop*, whatever the correct term is, elevation? Makes it slightly more complex than that of 1942, i.e. more skill needed imo.

            Scort.

            * We wont mention the fact that BF2 hit detection sucks though

Toecutter, you took one sentence and concluded that I haven't kept things in perspective? My overall point this whole time has been that 'in the end it's just a game so play what you want.'

As for sniper scope's, I thought Call of Duty got this perfect with the scope sway. 2142 has sway but it's only up and down, and once you unlock the 4x scope the sway is almost non-existent.

I wasn't refering to your post in particular when writing that bit. More so the folks that find it necessary to call others names and/or get beligerant in their posts. :)

The only piece about your post that I was commenting on was the prone bit. The rest was just about the general discussion in the thread.

This is my point, You say the dogfights are terrible. Well, In 1942 they didn't have lock-on missiles either did they?

1942 will always be the peak of the battlefield series.
