Disclaimer - I suck as a pilot. Practicing and trying to get better, and I'm ok, once engaged, but have a terrible time finding the opponent and lose track once I am engaged.
Anyone have any tips for spotting and keeping an opponent in your sights? I use rear view, but that doesn't really help a lot. I'm finding flyby might be more useful because it gives your more sky to look at.
Anyway...
Playing Wake last night, PLA side. I'm in a J10, the other J10 gets stolen. Me and the opponent are playing cat and mouse. He gets on my six and I switch to rear view to see him. He shot 5 or 6 missiles at me as I was in a hard turn (with him not far behind and solid lock), and I saw AT LEAST 3 come right up my tail, and, at the last second, swerve OVER me (meaning they came to the inside of my turn, right over the cockpit). Not one of them hit me.
It reminded me of what you see when they use smoke to show wind tunnels testing.
Bizarre. Has it always been like this? I just recently got BF2 and never played anything but 1.41.
It's too bad the Essex is so weak on Air Defense - it could help even the odds up for the F35 is you had someone competent on the CIWS and the F35 pilot leads the bad guys back to the base for some assistance.
