Re: You are NOT a master Sniper.

I welcome people who say that snipers do not help the team to join me in a game, and to squad up with me. I'll gladly prove them wrong in every way possible.

As a designated marksman (Thanks Jemme for the title!) I make it my job to not only capture every flag on the enemy's team, but to kill the enemy before they even have a chance to start shooting back. You'd be suprised how easy it is to headshot some moron when he goes prone with the RPK out when you already have the crosshairs on the spot his head will land.

You'd also be suprised how helpful two claymores (Get out of arse-raping free cards) are when you're capturing a critical flag.

    That was with the L9A61.

Of course, it's much more difficult to get 67 kills when you're 100% stationary. Thats something I could never imagine doing. I have ADHD I think.

Sniper is awsome to play. I am lonewolf most of the time but thats how I like to play, doesn't mean I hurt my team mates by doing so. i get kills, kill assists and defend important flags and on occasion save team mates lives without them even realizing. If anyone don't like sniper, don't use it. I don't like some other kits so I don't use them. What some say about snipers can also be said about other kits and/or vehicles in this game. Like Support who use the PKM but won't throw you a bag of ammo, or medics who won't toss you a heal and driver's who won't pick you up. It's all the same.

Nearly every server I join is infested with Snipers.

        Here's a tip.

If you are dying more than you are killing, you are not doing your job. Switch to another kit.

It's almost impossible to play with all the Snipers runing around, thinking they're hot ****.

        Anyone else notice this?
I find that snipers are only effective on specific maps which limit mobility such as karkland or sharqi. Straight forward combat with little threat from fast attacks.

On more open maps like Daqing Oilfield/Fushe Pass/Zatar snipers are almost useless because of the constantly changing map. Small, fast reaction forces seem to be much more effective.

When I first started playing, sniping was appealing. Now I find that most other kits are a far better addition to a squad. Constantly playing in full squads has probably biased my opinion to some extent.

The difference lies in truth that I can see much greater area laying on some high ground 100m or 200m away from the flag than laying in some dark corner few meters away from the flag. I can spot the enemy while my mates are capping the flag. If I don't hit him, my mates at least know he is approaching and also from where. Basically I don't have to shoot even single enemy to be a good sniper, it's enough if I keep revealing enemy movements by spotting them.

Make no mistake, sniper is one of most usefull kits if used correctly.

It's funny... Any other day i would have disagreed with you but yeterday when i was playing i did say to myself: "Hmmm... There's a lot of snipers around. I was on warlord down by the SAS main base playing as mec and there were snipers everywhere! Funny thing is thought: I was a sniper too and i was having a very goods time! Most of the snipers did'nt seem to have any clue of what they were doing. And they were very easy to kill.

Still... I see myself as a noob sniper too, at 10,000 gp you're pretty much a noob at everything, but these guys! I just could'nt help myself and had to start mocking them (in a friendly way, I'm not an *sshole) they finally got me tho but i just ran back down there again. And started over.

However, if I see a ton of enemy snipers trying to defend early (i.e. multiple snipers on the cranes and/or dominant rooves), I will spawn in with that kit and countersnipe freely. I hate seeing multiple snipers on the same platform. Not only does it make a marginal hide worthless when you add multiple silhouettes, but you both have the same angle and targets to shoot at.

Coordinate and create a friggin death funnel people!

Two snipers on the same team/squad, and spotting for each other when they can't take the shot themselves can be very effective.

Same as machine gunners running up the center of the battle. That is not how the weapon was designed to be used in real life, and it doesn't work any better in the virtual world. A machine gun dead center to the attack is a juicy target, while a MG on the flank is devastating and often goes unnoticed until the entire assault has been repelled.
Best post in a long time on this forum. Read it all and learn from it.

Exactly how I play to btw. Break the enemy defense by capping a couple of flags and forcing his attacks on your terms through some area on the map.

The City maps have a limited range in viewdistance because of fog & viewdistancescale being nerfed. They dont suit me at all.

Open maps they are useless???? Eh ... wrong. I cannt speak for the majority of the snipers but neither can you.
When you check my stats you can see that I played allmost 40% of my time (400 hours) on Dragon Valley. If the battle is on some other part of the map you just get a buggy and move up to that area and start to go to work again. Or you could try to anticipate the next move by the enemy and prepare a defense at the next logical CP they will attack.

Hehe I got a nice spot on D.V. where I can empty 4AA's , 3 TOW's, 3 fixed MG positions and cover 12 spawnpoints. Not at the same time but when I traverse an area of 50 meters up and down I can cover them all. Its probably the best spot in BF2 for me and requires only a short walk so I can keep pace with the flow of battle and as the commander wants me to deploy.

Wow.... snipers: defend flags, capture flags, kill people who are flanking, and give you lots of easy kills (95% damage...)

Re: You are NOT a master Sniper.

Must admit haven't read the whole thread but.........what???

I will say snipers that sit in one place and get 3 kills in a round are a waste of time. However, used properly the sniper kit is one of the best kits in the game!!

i've got over 7000 kills as sniper and still work together with my team. People that slag off snipers and make out there a "noob" (yeh cos its harder than just spraying with a machine gun from 5 yards away!!!!) are normally the players that get owned by snipers.

I often go tag team with a mate (2 snipers on team talk), Teamplay, high points and no one can withstand 2 sniper shots simultaneously!

I can't remeber how many times i've got a kill damage assist for shooting the enemy then for my team mate to finish him off in 1 shot from his AK-101 or whatever. That to me is Team play. Spotting the enemy, laying clays to help condense the area when taking a flag or approaching 1.

I don't discredit any class that is played well. You will always get snipers that do nothing and sit around or just get shot the whole round but then you'll get medics that won't revive or, this is more common, support that won't resupply so..............................................??

I don't play sniper much (not my fav kit), but am forced to when covering large open ground like the beginning of the Jalalabad 64 player map, or the stalemate that develops @ the train wreck in Karkand

I basically go sniper to counter snipe snipers in positions where the sniper kit has the advantage

My favorite tactic when US in Jalalabad, is to work my way up to the first flag as sniper, & when we take the first flag pick up an RPK-74 off of a dead enemy

My fav tactic when mec in Jalalabad is to work my way up to the big rock near the US base, & never let them out their main (2 good snipers, & 1 medic can shut down the US advance on that side of the map)

Or AT that run around with Eryx/Sraw permanently out in IO servers or C4 car bombers, or medics with Defibs permanently out.

Clays are definitely the most heated part of the kit in the snipers arsenal. They are working when you are. Meaning it's like having 2 other players on your side cos they are getting kills at the same time. The only other class that has that privilege is the engi's but no one complains about people spamming AT mines..........see what i mean? Reason being is that there is limited tanks so not everyone can get one. But there's lots of infantry, claymores=infantry, AT Mines=Tanks/APC's.

A lot of my kills are with clays, thats cos i know how to use them. I dont spam spawn points (the enemy is invincible for a split second when spawned and the mine goes off but doesn't kill them) and it's a bit cheap. Seriously in Karkland, lay them in the iddle of the road and people run into them!!!!!
