Re: 100% view, which map is best?

in the server.zip of the maps, open up the init.con file in notepad.

            where it says
            GameLogic.MaximumLevelViewDistance 610
that is your max possible view distance for the map.

you then have to take into consideration the fog's max view distance.

open up the sky.con file, again in notepad,

            Renderer.fogStartEndAndBase 0.00/610.00/0.00/0.50
the second number is the max viewdistance from fog. which is your 'true' longest range.

these were taken from dalian plant btw.

            :)

So 610m on Dalian, so "some dude" could have possibly "nailed a guy" at 512m, yes.

Re: 100% view, which map is best?

Well actually the max view distance doesnt prove anything about any kills over a given distance. This guy who claims a 512 meter shot isnt that special.

One of the best snipers in the game, dont_be_ss has his personal record at 595 meters on Kubra Dam. I dont know if it has been taped in fraps so I cannt show it to you.
The old world record was also set by dont_be_ss at 554 meters --> 554m - Dalian Plant

The new world record is held by plastic_budgie at 629 meters also on Dalian Plant --> 629m - Dalian Plant

EDIT nice post <andy> I am gonna make a short list for easy reference and correction on a related subject I am working on. Cheers m8 :)

well this can't be a shot of skill, just luck, as there is literally nothing to be seen past 610m.

btw - just seen the video - where is the 629m evidence?

Well you just said it yourself, fog starts at 610 meters and you cannt see the target so its beyond that visual range.

I dont know what exactly led up to that shot, but he was on the carrier so I am assuming he got killed from the position where his target was and he did a little counter-sniping on him.

There was no luck involved. These guys and a select group of others are just this good because the only snipe over long distances when they play the game. I know for fact that dont_be_ss spends all his time on Wake Island which forces you to shoot over long distance (over 300 meters) all the time.

i am not saying they are not good - but when you can't see your target AT ALL - that is luck. or an aimbot. there is no skill in that at all i'm afraid.:)

Well lets pick this one up because calling people cheaters or hackers without them being present is not done in my book.

There is a select group of snipers, I am not part of that btw, that played long range sniper maps exclusively at one point. They have mastered all the aspects of the weapon which allows them to get shots in over great distances with an high degree of accuracy. Thats fact.

There is a lots of ways of knowing where an enemy sniper (which in both movies where the targets) is.

                        1. Spotting by own forces
                        2. Spotting by own commander
                        3. UAV
                        4. TeamSpeak
                        5. Getting Killed by that same sniper which is now the Target
                        6. Routine checks combined with either Spotting or Hovering
                        7. Common Sense based on own experience

There are probably some I just forgot to mention here but these are the first that come to mind.

I dont compare myself to these Snipers but when I hear a bullet wizz by my head ingame then I know with 90% certainty where that shot came from. I combine that with all the sniper locations that I know of in that map and usually I can get a shot in before the other sniper has fired his second round.
That has nothing to do with aimbot , hacks or whatever. I wouldnt even know how those work to be honest and I havent used them ever.

Based on my own experience and from what I assume these other snipers have also learned the past year they have the same feel for thgis kind of stuff. Trying to put their skill down with a remark like they use a third party program is cheap.

i think you protest TOO much.

i was calling noone cheats - just suggesting ways in which these 'skillful' shots were accomplished.

there is no way on earth, anyone playing without cheats can fire blindly into the 'dark' and land an aimed shot.

                          therefore these shots were lucky.

none of the ways you have described could account for 'knowing' exactly where someone completely out of visual range is, let alone landing a shot on them.

How much I protest is my own business, you called aimbot before you even know any of the facts.
I explained ways of knowing where a target is and using experience to your advantage. If you dismiss that it really isnt my problem. It only shows how much you know about this topic.

Before the flame war ensues...its entirely possible that these shots were staged (hence how they knew where the enemy was).
