Had to try that out and made it over 4000 today, but only for a split second. Of course I didn't manage to take a screenshot and lost control. Reproducibility --> 1 %

Yeah, just run at 90 degrees with full afterburners, you'll pass the 4000 rather easily

Problem is you can't get high enough to dive without losing control, and you can't produce those speeds at low altitudes. :hmm:

The lower you are, the more compressed the air, therefore friction goes up and jet flies slower.
Yet you are right when speaking of descending, and not when flying straight at X hight.
