Ppl got tired of armor on both sides AVOIDING each other

For example: Karkand

The mec tank, & APC's go to the east of the hotel, & "camp out" the US uncap spawn

The US tanks, & APC's "camp out" the alley ways west of the hotel

They will even defend this tactic saying they are reducing the other teams tickets, & brag about their k/d ratio

Your average jet pilot will go after other jets first, & your average chopper pilot will go after other choppers first, but your average tank driver just wants to "gay out" infantry

So, to answer your question, 9 yr. old "1337" destined to be gay tankers drove the push for IO

The game is not "better" w/ out tanks, the game is "better" w/ out 9 yr. old "1337" tankers that avoid contact w/ enemy armored vehicles, & do not provide support for their infantry team m8's

Sweet Jesus, a different playing mode! Quick, let's all ditch BF2, sell our homes, and move to South Africa.

Don't like infantry only? Here's an idea: go to another server. There are literally thousands of servers out there and most of them are not IO enabled.

I like the change. Don't have to worry about Uncle Arty any more. Don't get run over any more.
I do miss the choppers and jets but there are always servers running with them on anyway.
IO mode is fine as an option only.

IO is more balanced then with vehicles. This is the main reason I play it. What drove me away from vehicle servers was plenty. No counter to jets. So I played city maps only. But AT rockets are a joke against tanks and choppers, I have hit a tank and APC in the rear with a mounted TOW only to have them spin and kill me then drive off. I have seen APC's and tanks drive over landmines (up to three) and not blow up.( the mines did but not them) Infantry stands no chance against vehicles in any situation. I understand they should be tough. But a single infantry should be able to take out a tank with a shot from a TOW in the rear. Playing infantry is not very fun on vehicle maps. Yea a good squad of grunts can take out tanks and APC's. But then all that hard work is wiped out with on enemy arty strike. No sir IO for me. I love the mad globs of people crashing into each other. Great firefights. Go ahead and say it is a nade spamming sniper fest. While this can happen.(at least I can kill the guy throwing the nades, try killing a guy throwing bombs every minute.) So can crazy firefights where you can come out the other side with four or five single pump kills. Not to mention when a front line is established. I have seen it take five minutes to advance the line twenty meters.

One thing I'm struggling to find is a Vehicle enabled 32 man Karkand server that is good. I used to miss those. 64 player for me is too much armour, especially if the US cap Factory.

we always ran karkand 32, like you said, US get factory = they now own 2 tanks and 4 apcs! madness! two of my clan members who are not with us now always wanted karkand 64 cos they loved the armour. but for a rifle lover like myself that was never gonna happen, i always play IO with 3/4 particular clan mates now who just love it and we get good results. i pop back to vehicle servers now and then cos i like a bit of attack chopper action (yes i love to seat switch) :p

i'll be back playing 2142 as soon as a similar IO version is available.

I agree w/ BTT, & add this tidbit, the best way to take out another tank is w/ a tank

The problem is this unspoken pact that a lot of tankers seem to have, you don't bother me, & I won't bother you, & we will both clean up raping infantry

It only takes 1 infantryman to go AT, & take out a tank if he is helping his own team m8 in armor that seeks to engage enemy armor

prob with IO is everybody just spams nades all the time.
one good thing is if your after your pistol or knife badges.
you can just run right at em and with a bit of luck you`l get a few kills.
BTW thats if your own team dont kill you 1st .
i dont think its a bad idea as such just badly done and used..
i think they should have kept the jeep drop.
that way you could play it on bigger and more open maps .
i feel this would cut down on all the nade spamer .
but then just look at how many 24-7 karkand maps there are .
i think its a shame cus theres some gr8 maps.
and theres prob ppl out there who have never even playd em.
some severs just seem to miss the point and sadly the fun of BF2 .

Because without the vehicles, it feels more like I am playing counter-strike, and that is a game I don't particularly care for. I like to play BF2 for the tanks, planes, jeeps, and choppers, you can have your Infantry Only mode, it's not my cup of tea - perhaps you could let me know why you like IO mode over regular BF2?

You have a vailid opinion about IO mode, and I know many BF2 gamers that share a similar opion, but your execution was not the greatest.

The answer is...
Sometimes it's fun to do something different once in a while and taking the high powered vehicles out of the game changes things up a little bit and adds some variety. Game modes are a good thing - many of them have them, UT2004 being a good example - there's DM, CTF, ONS, DOM... and that's just to start off with. Anyone remember the CTF in BF 1942? It was fun on occasion, as long as there wasn't a B-17 on the map.. then it was no fun at all.
There is nothing wrong with taking out tanks, APCs, planes and choppers and fighting it out on the ground. If one feels that it's just like CS then you really need to take a closer look, because it is quite different. I'm not anti-vehicle at all, they are great when used right, and as mentioned, the best way to take out a tank is with another tank and if you happen to take out some infantry and a few APCs along the say, that's perfectly acceptable. One good chopper pilot and gunner team can do some serious damage and provide cover for thier infantry team mates for a good period of time.
There are a good number of servers out there - if you see an IO one, don't join, simple as that. IO does bring a lot of grenade spamming - maybe it's a mental replacement for not having a tank. Some of the best (and longest) rounds I've ever played were IO on Jalalabad and Mashtur and I can say that I've had some great rounds on Wake and Oman with all the vehicles.. guess it all depends on what you are in the mood for.
I for one can't stand vehicle whores, especially if they TK for a plane / tank / chopper and will stand there and wait for the APC to respawn while the rest of team is out defending / capping flags... it's the best way to get a kick / ban from the SpokLAN.net hosted servers.

I'm good in infantry but it's stupid imo. It's only support/medic 98% Medic. Since recently I've found the fun again in Conquest After playing long periods of infantry only.

I got tired of plane and heli whores. I dont mind tanks but feel they are too much trouble to hit with at. Now its gren spamming bunny hoppers in IO. Guess its just the end is near.
