Its proven that all bf2 noobs move on to new versions like 1.41, now the noobs make threads that there aren't enough servers to play on/empty servers, so they get bored and exit BF2 and whine on the forums about how we should now all install the patch for them.

According to the ROE stuff, all servers should be running the latest version. This implies players should have it too.

This is where you are wrong.

If you are a Project Reality mod fan, and you wanted to play on their servers, they specifically told you to not update because their modding team still had to check the compatibility on 1.41 so the people who care about it wont update instantly.

It = Project Reality.

Mods (as awesome as they are) are NOT the bread and butter of the BF2 series.

As popular as DC was to Battlefield 1942, there were still more vanilla servers than DC servers.

Not many people even know mods exist. Let alone look at forums or news sites to confirm their existance.

Most people buy BF2 off the shelf and play what they get. Patches come through official announcements. This is something EA put in the game (post login splash screen) but have failed to utilize for 1.41.

Is it because of 2142? Probably not, but they still slipped up on getting this out to the mainstream.

I have decided not to install the full 1.41 patch on principle. Until they release an incremental patch, I will remain on 1.4 until such a time as there are no more servers available to play on, at which point I will simply stop playing altogether.

EA/Dice have horrible practices and I will not encourage them to continue this way: by downloading and patching with a 536MB download (of which 530MB is filler), you are all guilty of it. You're telling them it's OK to continue treating you like this.

Call ME the idiot if it makes you feel better, but I'm the one voter who will try to make others follow suit. Don't support companies when they treat you like sh*t.

I really don't think downloading the patch means supporting EA. First because by downloading it you use up their resources.

Second, stop playing a game you already paid for means nothing for them. It is even good for them because less players means less server load and less support.

Maybe it's just me but since I installed 1.41 (last nite) I've had 2 CTD.

Never had ANY before even on 1.3 (think that was the one everyone had the prob with).

ROE applies to Ranked servers, PR is/should only be played on unranked. so your comment is flawed

just start the download and go watch TV or get out of the house, you dont have to be on the computer 24/7

when mine was downloading, i booted up BF2SP64 and started practising my bombing im ok with the f35/j10 but not with the migs

It would make far more sense for EA/Dice to release patches to mod teams early so compatability issues with mods could be rectified by the mod team sooner rather than later.

Frankly, why the hell people's so reluctant to download a single file?
Damn, it's ONLY 536 MB. It takes a little more than 1 hour to download that at 110 Kb/s (my connection speed). I bet most of you get better speeds.

Patching itself won't take too long either, because if you already have 1.4 it doesn't patch everything from "the beginning" all over again. It just patches as an incremental would do.

I have been tracking the number of servers running each version and naturally 1.41 numbers are rising:

As Of Now:
1.41 servers: 3072
1.4 servers: 2191

But this stupidity/stubborness split the players in a half and some of my fav. servers are running 1.4, some 1.41
For F's Sake, EA is probably NOT going to release an incremental anytime soon.

Seriously, EA/Dice should give 24 hours for all servers to patch to the latest version. If not, stats coming from them should not be counted. This would be the perfect solution.

I downloaded from the EA Link thing. It took 7 minutes.

But now my game crashes randomly. Connection to the server lost. Averaging two crashes every 4 hours.

Did they fix a rare server bug or add a rare server bug?
