POE2. Unbelievable how a mod can be so much different from the main game when it comes to infantry level combat. There are a few conceptual mistakes here and there, but overall, the game is absolutely amazing. I found in POE2 what I didnt find in BF2142.

It pains me that I cant play it right now, not unless I get a good connection.

I hope you're right. Then all the kids who TK for vehicles, base rape for stats, and generally just blow the whole BF2 experience, will be gone, leaving the game for the diehards who are actually into the team play that BF2 was designed to feature. Good riddance, little Johnny. Go play Quake.

Re: How long do you think BF2 is going to last when the popularity decreases?

I havent played on my ranked account for months now even though its close to a promotion and plenty of awards are within relativly easy reach but i got bored of the game. The lack of maps and variety really makes ranked play a boring prospect after a while, I do not understand how people keep on playing Karkand for endless hours. The mods are the only thing that are left that are interesting to me, purely because they have the variety of maps and content that are required to keep the game interesting.

I think ultimately the ranking system will serve to kill BF2, in one way or another, it limits the numbers of players that will take up mod play- your close to a promotion and poe gets released are you going to get the promotion or the mod? The mods need a player population of some sort to be worthwhile, the ranking system doesnt encourage one or give easy access to one. I have a great deal of respect for the teams that put time in creating the mods since they do not have easy access to the core of the BF2 playing population, only those of us that have stopped caring about rank. The irony being that the core of the playing population probably wants new content, new maps, but you are point penalised if you do it. The alternative ranking systems are a good thing in this respect as it does allow you to start a whole new 'project' if you like but its far from the mainstream.

I would like to see 'proper' ranked mod servers surely it would be possible to intergrate the points you earn playing the mods into your BF2 carreer in some manor, tours of duty or something, just to help make the great mods avaialble more accesable to everyone.

DICE didn't do themselves any favours with their treatment of BF2 and then the gameplay decisions of BF2142, I doubt I will ever buy another Battlefield title
^^True story. I'll be playing AA as well. DICE/EA/ROE and Ranks killed everything what made BF series so popular.

I don't want to nitpick about your statement about 'realism'. BF2 is about as realistic as 2142 is. BF2 is so full of ****, it is just an arcade deathmatch round-the-flag-capture-then-leave-and-have-it-capped-right-behind-you game.

BF2 is dieing a quick death. Many are bored but 2142 heck we only have 4 members playing it. EA could save BF2 if they'd release a free new ranked map pack.

I made BF2, I'll decide when it ends.

but it IS still more realistic than 2142, if you think doing same thing of capturing the flag in the 2142 is any more realistic than in BF2 i would have to disagree with you there...:p...i mean, i never said that the GAME it's self is realistic i am just saying i would much rather play an (in your terms) an unrealistic game in a more realistic surrounding....following?? i get a bit confused reading that sentence too...:p
i think that i would much rather be playing with a gun, helicopter, jet that is actually present in my present time than 100+ years from now...i think because of this BF2 will be a part of mylife for still a longer peroic and thus "going to last":)

The way its going and how so many people get connection errors or lag. I dont know if BF2 can survive for long. Even with powerful rig like mine I get huge lag in Sharqi getting less than 35fps in action.

Re: How long do you think BF2 is going to last when the popularity decreases?

Bah. My BF2 days MIGHT be over blast it. I enjoy playing BF2 three or four nights a week, with whiskey. However, I was having problems with AF (yes, EA got me for BF2, SF, EF, and AF) so upon deleting and beginning the reinstall process, I realized I've misplaced my BF2 manual.

                      You know...

The one that has my serial number...

                      That I can't install BF2 without...

The one that should have been right beside my SF manual, in the box where they are BOTH supposed to be...

                      ...

...I'm *thinking* the wifey may have gone spec ops on my BF2 manual. Sigh.

Just pointing out that it's not just new programs coming out, it's also people not recording their serials elsewhere, and/or disgruntled (but drop-dead gorgeous) spouses deciding that it may be time for BF2 to be "moved on".

Back to Oblivion and BFME 1 (or "long walks on crockfarcking beach") for a while, until I can turn the apt upside down. I'm going to miss the li'l bird if I can't find my manual...

                      ...*sniff, sniff*...

Aslong as there are servers people will play BF2 online.

The major blow will be when EA stop supporting the ranks

Maybe so, but i don't think that will be the case.

There are a huge majority out there who like the feel of the modern day weapons. Quake wars is too futuristic.

I know i'll be playing BF2 forever until something better comes out. BF3? (I hope)

Don't think BF2's death is going to be anytime soon to be honest.
