Tom, I hate to say could'a/should'a but the best way to have gotten the ribbon was back in the BH glory days. The Mini-Gun on Mashtuur was the end of many.

They were. I looked a some of the requirements for some of the badges, like driver assists and helo time, and I just said, screw it, I will never get them now that they gimped the BH, who really wants to get in it now (er at least, stay in it)?
well i know this answer has been given elsewhere on this forum before, but its what helped me get it after ages of trying elsewhere.
i also got crew service, helo specialist at the same time
i went to SF-->iron gator waited at the mec attack heli pad, a pilot jumped in, boy what a pilot he turned out to be, fantastic
jumped in, and the rest is history, seriously he was brilliant, slow and hovering so i could get the kills, not darting around like a mad thing....i was racking up kills, to be honest he was so good with his own missiles, he was getting more kills than me i think, which helped with my kill assists,
i am not sure how i got the ability assist as required by crew ribbon but i did as i was engy so maybe that helped somewhere along ther line...
i know it sounds like an ideal situation, that never crops up when you need it, but i was waiting around and trying to get in a heli for numerous rounds, but my break came with patience and twas well worth it....give it a try
