    Re: The Truth About CAL

My experiences with CAL players have almost all been negative.

Back in my PlaneWhoring days when I released the first PlaneWhore video (a basic piloting tutorial for newbies) it spawned a thread on the CAL forums mocking my ability. As a result many of the top CAL pilots attempted to hunt me down on the servers I frequented and shoot me down. Luckily for me I was warned ahead of time by a player on the PBF servers about this PlaneWhoring killing contest so I could properly defend myself and record the results. Long story short none of the CAL pilots succeeded in shooting me down. I managed to shoot them all down though and posted up screenshots which seemed to upset them quite a bit and ultimately resulted in a locked thread.

On a related note almost all of this CAL player ([FRAG]Eldar being the worst) were complete asshats on the servers I was flying on. I watched a few of them teamkill for aircraft among other things and one of them even switched to my team and attempted to teamkill me with the other plane. Needless to say not very sportsman like conduct.

CAL players are better than the average pub nub... I'll give them that. But all the points I give them for skill they lose because of their poor attitudes and behavior.

      LOL!

Now thats a funny story! But I actually understand them aswell. Back when you actually made that video, there were only a few people who could do the damage to the ground as you showed. I know I personally was a long way to go (Simply judging by the video, at the time I could have taken you down in ATA). All I saw back then was bombs being missed-dropped at flags and armor, and machine gun use was only used against the airfield. Even killing Essex from range was something only a few people did with constant success. So when you released the vid, its perfectly understandible that it triggered a storm of hatred from the elitist players.

By the way, you still on BF2 or have you migrated to BF2142?

BF2Pro did not modify any movement code. It basically just made certain guns more accurate, fixed gun sounds to match with their fire rate, and adjusted other minor things like ammo pack and TV missile loads. The increase in accuracy should actually make it a lot easier (compared to normal BF2) to hit people who don't stand still or jump while you shoot at them. The fact that almost all the players playing BF2Pro are better (i.e. more aware) than average pubbers just means that most of them won't stand still for you when you shoot them :) It's not the mod, it's the players.

I've seen 'pro' gamers on a pub server, as a team, with other clan mates of theirs, they did very well.

But the most annoying thing is that they NEVER stop jumping, they constantly jump from one flag to another, what ever the situation, they hardly ever stand still. Bunny hopping and dolphin diving to the max.

Which is ****ing gay as hell.

It is the most effective way to play the game. They can't shoot at you while they are doing that, so why do you care? I don't want to turn this into a BHing argument but those evasive tactics greatly increase the skill involved in the gameplay. Competitive players play the game to win. If you find that annoying, competition clearly is not for you.

Evasive as in messing up the hitbox/hitreg in the game, as in exploiting.

Evasive in my book is something totaly different and has nothing to do with eratic movements.

How can it be the most effective way to play the game if they can't shoot at me while they are doing that? :/ am I missing the point here?

I don't care how they play. But I find it extremely stupid when I see a group of characters not walking, not running... but constantly jumping across the map. Just picture it yourself, 10 or so characters doing that, it looks... well, stupid is how I can describe it. The game looses all the meaning because it's turned into a bunny hopping fest.

If that's the way they must play to win games, well, let it be. I personally would never lower myself to such degree.

I'd sooner play minesweeper than the trainwreck that is 2142. Yeah I still play BF2 a couple hours a day almost every day. Feel free to stop by the StrafeRight.com Karkand/Jalalabad server some time and come play with me (it has Sharqi too). I'll be sure to make room in the squad for you.

The only people who ***** about bunnyhopping are the n00bs. It doesn't even give you a tactical advantage in a fight because you cannot fire while in mid-air. In fact I love when people jump while fighting me because I know when they're stuck airborne for that second or two they can't fire at me but I can fire at them. The only reason people "bunnyhop" is because if you sprint and immediately jump you maintain your sprint speed throughout the jump and thus looping this sprint/jump combination over and over again is a reasonable method to get around faster on foot (like pulling out your knife in CS).

So that makes me a n00b? hey fair deal whatever you say mate.

But your explanation gives the true-est meaning to bunny hopping. Bunnies in real life sure do 'bunny hop' fast.

Personally, if you can't survive without bunnyhopping all the time, which most CAL nerds can't for a split second, than you can't really say that "You're crap becuase you can't shoot a bunnyhopper"

At the end of the day, nobody gives a **** if clan [SBFTTOS] beat @@~TWAFS'~~@! in a match on IO Zatar Wetlands to take 1st place in the CAL tables or whatever.

                            Re: The Truth About CAL

One thing you bunnyhopping complainers have to understand is that competition is held using BF2 dynamics, environment, limits and physics. Its pretty stupid to complain about proven and working evasive movement. You cant bunnyhop your *** out of the problem in Counter Strike because bullets land where you aim. Bunnyhoppers in BF2 simply combine random cone of fire and hitbox mess (heh) into a proven method of survival.

There are different ways to survive in each and every game, and they are different than those used in real life. So really, if you wish to complain about BHopping because it "looks gay" or "inst realistic" remember, a player does what the game allows them to do.

Ive held a debate with a player who used every god damn cheap trick there is in game. Hes literally a one-man-army. N00btubing, bunnyhopping, dolphin diving, every cheap trick in BF2 history. And Im a kind of a realism lover so it pissed me off before. His engagement philosophy is simple- kill the opposition as fast as you can without letting them have a shot at you. Basing your whole engagement on this phylosophy means that you will come out on top. He used to play CS a lot so that didnt hurt either. This expands into movement style, pre-engagement movement and all that. You really cant debate that. If he doesnt limit his gameplay and you do, then you shouldnt complain.

What separates a competitive player and a public server casual player is the level of input from your conscience. A competitive player in competitive environment doesnt have the luxury to play "fair" or "realistic" or in a way so that another player looks at him and thinks "wow, he looks so realistic".

Ive played SWAT4 in clan competitive environment and both in public play. Public games are just casual running and gunning. Competitive game is completely different. A game we had in SWAT4, looked like this- 15 minutes of totally immobile camping. Thats basically a WHOLE round. We spread out, took defensive positions and sat for the whole round. The defense was so tight that 1 of our team (5 vs 5) didnt fire a shot during the whole round. I could never camp for the whole round in public play. But we had to use every means necessary to beat the competition (Europes 4th in ladder).

Then theres the famous pepper spray dilemma, which can be compared to n00btubing in BF2.

PW, my intraweb is limited to a wireless connection at the moment, but I´ll look out for you as soon as I get a solid connection.

I see what you mean Chirs, and I agree with that guy that uses those dirty tricks - in a why, to some degree.

But I still think bunny hoping and dolphin diving are the most retarded things. I'm not looking for realism in this game either. But if you need to use every dirty little trick the game allowes (for one reason or another) you to do, the game looses all the meaning to it. It's just turned into stupidity.

does the CAL mod use 1.4 with the delay from crouch to standing after going prone? coz if it does then bunnyhop/dolphin dive cant be done??????//
