So after playing Battlefield 2 for a while now, I've just come to hear about people using macro's and how it gives them a slight advantage in 1-on-1 situations. I just have a question, macro's legal, and if their not why are people still using them
There's a discussion going on over the subject you are referring to.
- One side says macro's are considered cheating as they can execute actions faster/better than a normal human can do what gives you advantage.
- The other side says it isn't because it's just keypresses and everyone can do it.
Though I've got a G15 I only will use them in Singleplayer games and that's not dolphin diving (How poor). I'm on the first side macro's should not be used in games. Though EA has some action going on if you buy 2142 you get a Logitech G15 or something?
But the point is, In some situations macros can be cheating but in some not usually they are. I'm referring to the kind of cheating which gives you advantage not hacking.
People use them because that's something in human nature getting as much as advantage as you can. They even do it in sports. How can I get advantage over my opponent. But if you are a funplayer then you will probably won't use them.
Thanks for the reply , I'm with you to. Macro's are cheap and the people using them are REALLY annoying when all they do is jump and go prone when you shoot at them.

That's pretty much the main cause of my deaths. Though I only crouch and stay mobile, which is quite successful, I almost always get owned by the amazing jump->dive->prone one-shot artist.
It's like it is a glitch in the game that only a few know about; your accuracy jumps 300% by diving off a high rock and doing a face plant. In real life, landing on your sniper rifle or PKM would break your ribs, but in BF2 it allows you to kill moving targets with ease.
Macros can't be caught. Until they do server-side modifications to limit the speed at which keypresses can be 'accepted', they'll be around. That said, it's horribly lame but I can usually work around their so called 'advantage' so it doesn't bother me too much anymore.

Hope I've answered your question :)
it is not that they give an unfair advantage (which they do), it is that they are 3rd party software which is agaibst the Bf2 user agreement.
they are not illegal even though they should be. they are a much bigger problem than stat padding or hacking has ever been.
3.1.1 Players may not change (hack) any core games files or effectively change game settings by employing external programs or cheats for the purposes of giving themselves an unfair advantage over other players.
You are using the macro program / keyboard to give you an advantage over other players.
You can interpret it the way you want. But Server Admins can easily ban you for it legally.
