Re: You Have Not Enjoyed Battlefield, Until You've...

I have a big clan so we do big scrims like 25 on 25 or so. We don't just do 5v5 infantry like most. We also run the maps with vehicles and amors with indiviual squad. This really how bf2 was meant to play not with 10 on 10 and everyone is medic so your flags wont go down so fast. We have jobs like our aviator listens to our needs and bombs where we are gonna go. We also do 10 vs 10 open slots so anyone is welcome to join just have to sign up.

I don't know which teams you play against that only have medics. The 10v10 matches we have include armour, so AT and Special Forces guys are essential. We have one medic per 5 man squad, and the game flows along quite nicely.

This is not true, I play in the definitive-leagues and clanbase and never seen this tatic abused...sometimes people did it but never been frustrated by it.
And since patch 1.4 it´s not possible to use it in an efective way.
In the definitive leagues it isn´t even allowed to bunny Hop...max two jumps, gentlemans agreement.

I always seem to play worse when it counts then when we're just screwing around I do very well.

Indeed. Any lack of teamwork, strategy or implementation of such is non-existent and very frustrating at times. No one listens, even when you're the top scorer and can prove you have what it takes to win games. I've had people leave my SUCCESSFUL squad to do their own thing. It's nuts. So now I just give up being commander or squad leader and just do my own thing.
That's because there is no penalty for NOT being in a squad. there are server scripts that can take care of this though. Tactical Gamer uses them all the time on their server and it does promote teamwork. You have 90 seconds to join a squad and if you don't, you get kicked from the server automatically. That is at least one step above the random pub BS that goes on daily.

At least some of you guys are "getting it". Clan based play in leagues is where the excitement is. Once you get into a clan or start your own and interact with people and build strats and teamwork, it's the most satisfying online experience one can have. In a clan, you get a better sense of achievement and a better sense of yourself as a gamer. I always find room for improvement with myself.

is it just me or is it that once u join a clan, playing online pub when at that point in time clan members arent online it just seems so boring and haxy. and then u have like 20 of u on one server and u are totally kicking *** as a TEAM.

I agree entirely. Now that I've seen a new side to BF2, playing "normal" games on pub servers feels a little bland. There is no real heart pounding action.

I agree here also. In my clan there are a couple of guys the same rank as I am. However, they are much better strategic and smart players, which improves my gaming experience.

That's one thing I've not done to date, on any MP game, is become part of a clan, just didn't think I could commit my time to it.

Sounds good though, would be nice to work with people who are focused on playing as a team, rather than being Rambo.

Re: You Have Not Enjoyed Battlefield, Until You've...

Its all about finding a clan that matches your gameplay/style and attitude about the game. If you only want to win and have huge blocks of time to play then you need to really find a clan that is gung-ho serious with all kinds of members that can play all day. If you just love to have fun, play bf2 but want to maximize the game by working as part of a squad/team (and make a few far flung friends like me) then you should look for a clan that is more of a loose collection of friends and gamers that like to keep it fun. It is all what u make it. If you like to just run and gun then have a blast as a lone ranger but no matter how good you are if you come up against a squad of clan mates that are working as a team and they are even half "on the ball" they will own ur butt so dont say its hacking or cheating or the gods punishing you...its the way the game works and in my opinion should work.

Squad up and if I see you out there and there is room in my "teamwork" squad please join the team! I promise you will have more fun and points.

Re: You Have Not Enjoyed Battlefield, Until You've...

Clans are by far the best way to play any game. I am really glad that the creator of this thread finally was able to experience the fun us clan players so often enjoy. But I would also like to tell you that there is way, WAY more to it than what you have experienced so far.

Competitive league play is by far the most thrilling online experience. If you really enjoyed that match, apply for a CAL team. The leagues add so much more to the experience. In leagues you get to play under pressue, (hopefully) play in the playoffs. The good teams actually get broadcasted on live shoutcasts, which are basically like TV broadcasts of sporting events except on the internet. Check out fragtv.net. In leagues you can make a name for yourself as a skilled player. The amount of coordination and teamwork in CAL I am sure far surpasses anything you have experienced so far. I'm sure after pubbing not getting TK and everything is nice, but I cannot describe to you what it is like to play in matches with incredibly complex strategies. In CAL the good teams have complicated strategies (called strats) which they spend weeks developing. Every player has a specific and complex job at all times during the match. Each team has a specific game plan. Mid match the teams leader has to make quick decisions to respond to the other teams moves and it can become similar to a game of chess.

The strats teams use are often very creative and tricky, sometimes very risky and daring. It is a great feeling being a squad leader and driving a jeep when the match starts, weaving and doging tank and APC fire until you make it to your opponents main base. Right as you are about to get there you give the signal to the rest of your team on TS. Immediately everyone on your team suicides and spawns on your in your oppenents main base. The other team doesn't know what hit them and you win the match. Strats such as these are common and very exciting to take part in.

The most thrilling experiences in CAL come when you are playing hard teams, teams who most everyone thinks are better than you, teams who have reputations. I have a couple of CAL experiences I would like to share with you. The first was during season 2, roughly last december. My team Virus Inc. was playing in CAL-Open at the time, the lesser of the two leagues. We were playing through TWL Eazy-5, and new at the time but very tallented and feared team. I am sure no one thought we could win. We ended up winning the match by one ticket. I can remember engaging an enemy when the ticket score was us 3 and them 2. It was the most intense match I have ever played.

I also remember the excitement of playing in the TWL 5v5 league championship which was being broadcasted live on EGLN. We ended up losing due mainly to 2 very unluckly CTDs but the rounds were very very very close and the pressue was intense. There is nothing like the feeling of playing well under pressure.

I hope you play CAL someday, whether it be in this game another. All you have to do is post in the recruitment thread of the BF2 forums if you want to join. Not every team is CAL is full of uberleet players and I'm sure most anyone could find a team that would take them.
