If BF 1942 can last as long as it has, so will this game.

I don't think the original game will last 5+years like bf1942. A year + and BF2 is still buggy, some are still experiencing CTD, I know I am (tho not as much) and 1.4 is probably the last patch.
Buggy game + no support = people will find different games or will move to MODs. POE2 is about a month old and already released a patch which includes new content and game tweaks.

2142 is certainly not a quality game either. Got the first dreadul "Your connection has a problem" msg the 2nd time played it.

What's surprising about that picture is that someone is playing Diablo 2: LOD... I played Diablo 2 for almost 5 years (2000-2005). That was a hard one to quit.

Well, I dunno how about you, but when DirectX 9.0 based games started caming out all of a sudden (Doom3 / Half life 2 / Far Cry / Quake 4, just to name some), and they all had quite a hardware requirements, it was a bit difficult for each of those games to catch as much attention as - let's say - Diablo 2 or Starcraft did in the times when they were released.

My point is, that, especially here in Poland, rather few of my friends have the rig to play such games succefully (I mean more than 15 FPS). I'm one lucky bastard to have a powerful computer, trust me.

Some of you may say, that it's been already more than a year since BF2 was released; but I'd rather say it's been just a year. I remember BF2 hitting it's personal bests with more than 50,000 players playing at once... but having said that I just can't wait the day a computer like:
2000 - 3000 MHz; 1024-2048 MB ram; ATi x500-x800 or respective nVidia chipsets becomes an abosulte standard, or even a very low-end machine.
Gmaes as entertaining (and without month payment) like BF2 will become even more popular.

Oh noes, BF2 is nowhere near the popularity of CS:Source. And? Few games reached the original CS's level of popularity, and Battlefield 2 is far from dead. If I can get a full page of servers marked "64/64" then it is not dead.

Diablo 2 was my life for 4 years

Started off as a noob assassin and eventually got into running bots and all that wonderful stuff until the last patch turned the game to shiiit.
