Never got that bug! I have only gotten the bug where certain things and players are invisible on the map....which also stinks! Would have much rather been invinsible....lol

A player with morals?? unheard of. You should totally have exploited the situation. If the code is buggy like that, it's not your fault, but I understand why you felt guilty. It's crap that some people hack and cheat because they do so deliberately and ruin people's games on a regular basis, but that's not the case with you... I'd go wild if that happened to me! spamming c4 and nades all over the place.

Hey guys, many thanks for all the positive feedback, appreciate it.

Unfortunately, no screenies - I was too amazed at what was happening to take any. The way it looked was almost totally normal - I was among a bunch of MEC, they were all red to me, but the only strange thing was that I was wearing a MEC kit - you can tell from the sleeves. The Marines were blue to me, and didn't act any differently when I ran over to the hotel where they were.

I had been on the server for a few rounds, but left during that round. As an interesting note, when I tried to join a different server afterwards, I got my first CTD since patching to 1.4. Maybe the server kept me logged in after I left? Maybe.

And yes, it's very very very rare - it was the first time for me, and I've been playing for almost a year. Although I think I read on this forum about someone else having it, I couldn't find anything in the search.

Couple of details I should've included: I was wearing a MEC uniform, had the complete MEC "Look", yet I was USMC in that my gun did damage and got kills on MEC, and everything the MEC said came through in English, rather than Arabic.

Also, none of their weapons had any effect whatsoever. I didn't flinch or move with bullet hits, although nades and C4 did give the blurry image and ringing ears.

The server was Rubber Ducky #2, and FF was normal, not off. And since it turns out that FF was the only thing that killed me, that's probably a good thing, at least for the future if someone goes totally wild, because they'd be unstoppable unless an Admin booted them.

Oh, and although I was support, I couldn't resupply myself. I shot out all my pistol mags, and had no reloads, so I held out the ammo bag, but nothing happened. I ran over MEC ammo bags, and nothing happened either. Don't know what happened with "friendly" ammo bags though - didn't think to try that out. And yes, I had plenty of RPK mags and nades and of course the knife, but by that stage I was feeling really bad about the whole thing, so I didn't use up all that stuff. If I had, I could've gone 100 to 0 and gotten the 18 pistol kills I'lll need for expert pistol easily, but I didn't. It was just too cheesy as it was.

Overall, it seems to me like the server made this mistake:

It still had me assigned as USMC, but it allowed me to spawn as MEC, with a MEC character model, but failed to switch over some crucial variable to say I was MEC... and there must be a glitch in the code that assigns some default setting to all players where they've got inbound FF set to off (no damage) for the team they spawn in as, but since the server still scored me as USMC, my outgoing fire wasn't friendly at all to the MEC.

That's not well phrased, but I think you know what I mean. And in any event, thanks again for all the feedback on this thing. It'll be one of those "can you believe this?" Battlefield stories I'll be telling for a while.

Unless the server crashes, even if you leave halfway through a round, you still get the points accumulated. Just FYI.

Yah, that's new with the 1.4 patch. Man, I was playing a pistol knife server and everyone was using machine guns, yet I still used my pistol. I left before the game ended(coz it was sucking) with a 9/30 KDR. Unortunately, I think I kept the stats coz of the new patch, damn

this is the same bug i had a while back, except i did not bother trying to kill anyone. i know how to reproduce it as well bluebunny. its a kinda variation of the red tag bug.

This bug never happened to me. You should report it.
It seems like an impossible bug to me, since you were not immune to USMC fire.
Was it a FF off server?

Its not impossible. I have experienced it twice. It went down the same as the OP described and like him I didnt exploit it. I did run around like a headless chicken for awhile to annoy them After that I just pressed suicide.

yup I had it for the first time only a few days ago - unloaded a whole p90 clip into an enemy and he just stood there trying to unload his ak47 and pistol into me, neither of us died, it was funny.

Unfortunately we both got hit with an airstrike and it reset itself to normal before I could experiment more.

I had this bug about a month ago on a Jalalabad map too. I quickly disconnected the game after discovering the glitch and then reconnected later in the round. Everything was fixed. Even though it's tempting to stay, it's best just to leave.
