Why is the browser still junk after 5 patches?

just curious as to why they NEVER attempted to fix the browser.

Oh sure, one patch they forced it to update when you clicked on
multiplayer, but the whole browser is junk. First of all, the data is
almost worthless. Ping = 199 (click) Ping = 156 (click) Ping = 78

Thats if it doesnt lock up for 45 seconds when you click on a
server.

Im wondering if EA's main server isnt overloaded causing these
delays. I mean, we live in the 4Ghz processor age, folks. I have
never seen a browser take so long to do one simple task. I have
never seen a browser so pathetic, for that matter.

Anyone know if 2142's browser will be updated, or any better?
BF2's is a disgrace.

I wish that DiCE had left open certain components of the software to XML coding. Everquest had a XML backend that allowed the whole community to build ports that would change a lot of personal things about the game. You could totally replace the HUD with whatever you wanted. It was pretty slick.

Now, I think that if DiCE had done it right, they could have open sourced some of the code so that the community could build any plug-in they wanted/needed.

Most of the other games (made by other companies) are that way..

with Unreal Tournament you could do allll kinds of things including
making tens of thousands of maps, which keeps the game fresh and new.

EA's whole philosophy is to 'get by' with 'half-***' code, get it released,
put little effort into fixing bugs, but all effort into releasing ten dollar
expansion packs, all the while keeping the customer from having ANY
control over his purchase so that they will have to buy another one
later.

The makers of UT series (EPIC) knows how to release, support, etc a game.
UT 1999 is still played by thousands and its 7 years old. When BF2 is 7 it
will only be remembered as a bug-riddled piece of junk.

The ranked server is another example of EA's efforts to control everything
but in the process get server providers to give them FREE servers. Its a big
scam. Especially when they do very little to actually protect their precious
RANK system. Rank means nothing in this game, always has, and always will.
I get a chuckle when I hear people talking about their stats and ranks, its
almost as if some of these people here actually think they ARE their rank
in the game. We have EA to thank for all the stat padding and other releated
problems, they created them all with their crap rank system. Have a rank
system, ok, but like other games, no need for SPECIAL servers, silly babysitter
rules (6 babysitters needed before game starts...) If it keeps track of
your total time, they could base rank that way, thats the way it works
in real life anyhow.. not some silly crap system they have now.

But, anyhow, back to the browser, its junk, they know it, we know it, and
they done nothing to fix it. Its a joke.

Stats and Ranks should be characterized seperately. They are quite different.

I hopped into a dod:s server yesterday and was amazed at how fast I can go from desktop to being in-game playing. Its atleast 5 minutes faster than with bf2.

I'm kinda liking 2142's browser. Nothing really negative comes to mine as of now. And the fact that you can actually use the wheel on your mouse, is a nice touch.

I have'nt gottin any of those "0" ping servers that are hit or miss in a CTD, kinda way either. But it's still a demo so who knows. I'm an optimist though, so.

I usually get like 10, 0 ping servers. Most of the time when you change filters, you have to change the game mode filter for servers to actually show up. It's seriously the worst browser ever. CoD is like 5 years old and it's browser is fine...

Ping times are glitchy because it's slow and batches everything, so it queries a ton of servers and pings a bunch at the same time, but can't get around to processing the ping results until it's done with the server queries. It's not the only game to have this problem.

Bigger problem: Why are the filters STILL broken?

Lol, just give BF2 to Valve, soon enough we'd have one monster of a game. And then we'd also have this:
