but not your ordinary sniper thread.....why do people think the sniper kit is awesome? in a skilled players hands the sniper kit can be used barely effectively and in these occurances it is for the purpose of insulting whoever they manage to kill with the sniper kit
why you say?
because the sniper kit is horrible, ...its good if you want to get a 2-1 KDR with claymores because you cant shoot people with another kit maybe (which i could rant about certain other things too like dao-12s... but thats for another time maybe)

which leads me to the reason of this post.....why do most of you pubber think the sniper kit is hot stuff? in other games snipers CAN rape, but not in this one...in rare instances you may employ a sniper to pick off people perched up on a building that are being a nuisance but nothing more
so why?
dont argue that the sniper kit is awesome either, or that im just not good with it because thats why i dont like it, because you're wrong
the SVD is a cqb style weapon, not good for long range, m24 and unlocks arent 1 shot 1 kill unless you get a headshot...so again not good for long range especially considering fog of war in most bf2 maps....

yes, in real life snipers ARE the f***ing shiznit..but this is a game and the sniper kit BLOWS.....so why?

I'm a person who loves the following.

Shooting enemies from extrem ranges, with them not knowing where I am.
Being..stealthy..heh
And I like being effective..

And sniper give all of that, THEY ARE EFFECTIVE.

Of course, only if you use them right, but thats for any class..you gotta use em' all right.

how about this, when I play, I end up in the top 3 in the server. I defend flags, and shot people right as the spawn at their flags so my team can go and take the flag.

I've read and re-read posts like this, and it's quite simple: if you play in a squad, and have someone follow you as a sniper, and have a medic to help out, the sniper rifle can be incredibly useful. As for the headshots, I used to have problems with them, but I got better and better at it.

I don't play vanilla BF2 anymore, rarely, but when I started using the sniper kit more often, I'd get tons of kills and forget to deploy my claymores.

Anyway, there have been plenty of threads like yours since june/july 2005, and the answer is always the same: having a team player using a sniper rifle can define whether you lose or win the match. Having snipers sit on buildings and not offer help, that's what renders the kit idiotic.

One map the sniper (and Spec Ops) is very effective at is Warlord. Because the zipline is the fastest way of getting around and capping/defending flags. I always play sniper on that map and am almost always in the top 3 points-wise and almost always get the most flags capped or the most cap assists. But I wouldn't play sniper on any other map!

I like sniping because it's something different, i'll admit i dont get that many kills, but you cant tell me that taking 90% health of every player that charges my teams position doesnt matter.

I do quite fine with the sniper kit... and not just with the clays. Many rounds I will go 11 and 0, 15 and 1 and 20 and 0 using nothing but my sniper rifle. I can do this on most maps (not just Jalalabad which can be a noob sniper fest). I can do this in Karkand, Ghost Town, Sharqi, Dragon Valley.

I also have bad rounds with the sniper class in which I just can't get in my grove. This is why I don't have a KDR of 46.2566. I have a KDR of 3.32 with the sniper class which I am quite happy with.

Just because you don't like a class doesn't mean it sucks. I have a horrible time with Assault and Engineer, but that doesn't mean the class blows... or maybe it does. In any case I think I just suck at playing the class.

Someone mentioned a change of pace, that's the appeal for me. It's difficult to smoke when you're embroiled in a balls out 64player frag fest, so I opt to sit back from a distance, enjoy my smoking and casually take the occasional pot shot. It's not the best kit, sure, but it offers you something different, another way to approach the game.

no, i make the sniper kit look half decent which is less than you could probably say, i'll take you on head to head sniper vs assault or medic kit (me the sniper) and by head to head i mean up close and personal and take ya out...but that still doesnt make the sniper kit good



the extreme few times i die by a sniper are usually claymores, i have skill and experience...3 seasons of cal-main

And I bet the chicks love you for that don't they? That line work often at the local Hot Topic store?

The only problem I have with the Sniper class, is that too many people play it. Half of those people don't know how to use it either.

These are the people which do their sniping from rooftops and cranes :p.

I forgot to point that out too..I end up in the top 5 of the game half the time when I'm a sniper..

That must mean I sure wasn't effective..

That goes for starters yes.
I like to shoot at anything that moves. Screw one shot one kill. But I always try to go for the headshot. :)
