Pistol's pretty easy- however, what you want to do is; not rely on the pistol for softening up your targets.
Use your primary gun or grenades to cause enough damage to your enemies- and as they run out to find and eliminate you; be ready for them with the pistol.
Oh yeah, pistol works best in a prone or crouch when you zoom it. That way you can fire off fast shots and finish them.
iron sight in general on pistol gives you great range, even standing...
Karkand is good, especially if you're MEC and the US has taken the hotel - some cheap kills around the archway across the street - good for the knife.
For pistol - if you get to where you discipline your aim for the Head, you can snap off a few rounds at an enemy and drop him, even if he's holding a rifle. Surprising how many times I've fired at AT rocket, or GL, then used up my primary for another kill, then got the hat trick with the pistol on a 3rd guy - of course, reloading all 3 takes a few seconds :)
Perhaps playing sniper at medium range would be best- since most sniper rifles take a significant amount of health off your targets; you can easily finish off with the pistol. Just a quick switch from one weapon to another; and you don't need to unzoom your rifle- just switch, and finish what you started.
Thing is, you want to conserve on the pistol ammo- it seems to take a while to reload that thing. After all, it takes quite a few shots to take someone down with the pistol.
I usually play it safe and shoot from the chest up... or sometimes, from the head down... coz- the computers I play with, plus the connection I have at the place I play at, isn't quite up to par with keeping up with the servers it seems :P.
WOW i just got my pistol badge yesterday and im a corpral not that hard to do on karkand and as for the knife one i cant help ya there that is a harder one.

Best map for pistol is Sharqi. Play sniper with the M95, finish your targets off with the pistol.
Best map for knife is Karkand, do it on a high-points server or it's 100% luck. Do it as medic for self-heals and long sprint.
DONT DO HIGH POINT SERVERS those are illegal servers.

Mmm... serious warning... I'm guessing 'high-point' because they claim to offer 'high points'?

They already went over this. Using high points servers to stat pad is illegal, a statement which means precisely nothing because stat padding is already illegal, and probably got cooked up by the same person who decided TK punish should be mandatory.
Considering the ONLY way to get the knife badge is either extreme luck or trying specifically for it, I doubt that falls under their definition of stat-padding. Especially since you ARE killing people, and you're not reviving them, etc.
Helps to use a bit of psychological know-how when it comes to knifing. If you come to close quarters of someone running away from you, you won't catch up until they run out of stamina. The easy way to stop them is to shoot them in the back so they'd turn around- and immediately pull your knife out so they run right back into you; or throw a grenade ahead of them to make them panic and run back towards you. Hard to implement all the time. Alternatively- you can go sniper hunting. But of course- claymores are now super-weapons that can't be destroyed... so... good luck.
After reading this thread I went out and got my Knife badge last night. It was surprisingly easy. I did it on wake, and hid up near the plane wreckage on the hill above the beach. Guys would spawn at the beach, and walk straight past. Then I went into Jalalabad afterwards, and just had a bit of fun. I think I had 10 kill streak, all knives. I drove into the outpost from behind as a USMC, and knifed the poor MEC as they are facing the oncoming tanks.
I recieved my pistol badge the night before. On Zatar Wetlands. The Anti Tank SMG sucks, so I switched to pistol a couple of times. Since most of the other team we AT too, knocking them off with a pistol at a distance was easy. Didnt even need to soften up the targets.
Got mine shamelessly spawn camping with a knife at hotel. If your USMC and sneak round the surburb way right at the start of the round, no-one suspects you if your a sniper cause teh ghillies are similar. People were walking past me....and then being knifed.
Got my pistol as a sniper on a REALLY long round of sharqui. I would shoot someone with the L96A1, (take them to 2 bars) and then finsih them off with the pistol (1 shot). Knife is much easier than pistol IMO.
You sure? Karkand seems a little... too... open? You know what I mean. Most of the time you are exposed. But i'll try that.
Any other suggestions?
Karkand isn't open, the area fighting between Square and Suburbs on 64, go around and you could find tons of sniper with their backs onto you, but spot for claymores...

It kills faster and more efficient than you think
especially against those that are not moving at all
