Re: Can someone please tell me how aircrafts work?

I to am new to BF2. I just started to learn how to fly also with my Logitech Extreme 3D joystick.

I had trouble with my Logitech Extreme 3D joystick, too. I read post in this forum, and BF2tracker forums to resolve my problems. I am able to fly without crashing. Stay within the boundries.

Make sure you install the correct driver. you calibrate your joystick.

Heres where i practice. Go to create local, add map, ( i practice on clean sweep 64). You can add a password, if you want someone else to join you.
But otherwise, your flying by yourself. no one to TK you for the jets or heli's.
You have the choices of all the planes there.

I am still going to get more hours of flying here (clean sweep, in create local)
before i attemp to fly against real enemies on-line.

Try to always get the Chinese jet, J10.
It’s the noob-jet. It could really help you gain some confidence in flying and still give you some chances of staying alive in the air (against the veteran pilots).
You’ll figure out pretty soon what I’m talking about.

By default BF2 sets the axis controls to be inverted. Go to your controls menu, then under aircraft/helio controls check or uncheck it (depending on what you like) and test it out. Your probelm may be as simple as that.

So once I reach a certain height, how do I stop going up? I point the noise down a little?

How do I maintain my height? The plane seems to keep rolling and pitching when I never instructed it to. Or is it the way it is, that it has to keep doing this and I just have to keep correcting it to maintain my status?

If I want to go down, do I just set throttle to 0?
Leave the throttle on max power until you learn to fly. You can't let go of the joystick and expect the plane to fly straight and level. You must always control it and hold it on a steady course. Just try to fly straight and level, you will get the hang of it.

You may need to set your controls in the options menu.

It almost sounds like you have not calibrated your new joystick. Go to windows control panel and do that once every few weeks.

Forget about using rudders until you can fly a straight and level course. Then learn how to use the rudders and then learn how to use variable power settings.

I have to check my calibration almost everytime I switch the pc on... It may be that this is your problem.

Okay guys thanks for your suggestions. I've definitely improved a bit now. But one stupid question: on Wake Island 2007 (the map I practice on) there are three planes on the carrier right? One heli with missles (that's the blackhawk?), one heli without missles and one assault jet. I just can't get that heli without missles to move forward!! When it starts, it just keeps moving up and up, then it starts flip and fall. No matter how I tried to roll, pitch and steer, it just wouldnt go forward. Am I missing something here?

My best advice is ask metallica, Chris_Redfield, and planewhore for tips. Do a search in the tips section and find the guides that have been written, search the media section for the videos made. This will help you to learn some techniques both basic and some advanced.

Yup, no instructions will help. Just find empty servers to fly around on for a hour a day. When I first started I'd crash alot but after a while it just become second nature.

I remember when I first hopped in a helo I was like "what the hell, how do people learn to fly this thing?" Now it feels to natural.
