Can someone please tell me how aircrafts work?

    Okay total air n00b here.

I just bought myself a Logitech Extreme 3D joystick and properly set it up according to the pictures people posted in related threads.

Now I tried flying with keyboard and mouse before but they never worked out. I couldnt last more than 15 seconds before crashing so basically I never figured out exactly how things worked in an aircraft. Then I learned that a joystick would help. Guess I was wrong...

I did do lots of searches and found plenty of guides and tips for being a pilot. But all of them are way too advanced for me. My problem is I can't get a plane to fly without crashing, let alone those fancy maneuvers.

I know the slider controls the throttle, x-axis is body roll, y-axis is pitch and rotation is steering. But how come once in the air, I'm always rolling left and right, pitching up and down, and none of the controls seemed to be working? I always ended up falling in the sea or crashing into the carrier. I put the slider on max throttle but the plane would not go forward? I point the nose up but instead of climibing up into the sky it made a free fall right into the sea? I tried to steer but instead it started to roll? And why would it keep rolling when I never told it to roll anyway?

I know for a fact that the joy stick is working correctly because I'm able to test out all these controls when the plane is on the ground. It's just that once it's in the air things are all messed up.

This is getting so embarrassing and frustrating. I must be really slow on this. Please someone help me!!

I would double check your settings and lower your sensitivity.

Reading tips/tutorials on flying will not help. You need to practice. Fly fly fly fly fly... get used to flying, soon it'll become second nature (is that that?) to you. Then you'll just progress :) Fly fly fly, think and learn :)

        dude......

        that bites

practice more with the keybroad and mouse to get the physics down....

it really sounds like you should have an experienced pilot come to your house and show you how it worx.

        last bit of advice:

ALWAYS practice on populated ranked servers....always. that is the only way to learn!

To make the plane go higher, I should point the noise up and give throttle, right? How much throttle to give?

So once I reach a certain height, how do I stop going up? I point the noise down a little?

How do I maintain my height? The plane seems to keep rolling and pitching when I never instructed it to. Or is it the way it is, that it has to keep doing this and I just have to keep correcting it to maintain my status?

If I want to go down, do I just set throttle to 0?

Re: Can someone please tell me how aircrafts work?

I would say go full throttle at all times unless you go on a gunning/bombing run. IF this is the case, gain altitude (roughly 300-400M) and then throttle down and point the nose down and start your run, about 80-100M get back on the full throttle and afterburner if needed.

Practice practice practice, there isn't a "tell all" as you need to find your style.

Sorry Tombstone, I have to agree with Blades (for once I think, lol!) on this. Single player or an empty server is much better. The last thing anyone needs including the beginner pilot is :
-Being kicked/banned his first time out
-Giving the assist for helping the team lose
-Traumatized by flamers typing out "Stupid Noob!"
Find an EMPTY, and I do mean an EMPTY server and tear it up in there.

                        Temporary Hijack!

Yep, what the sensible people here have said. Practice practice practice. The great thing about this game is that every class/vehicle is practically a vocation, you need to invest time into each to actually reap the benefits/advantages. Well, except jeeps, anyone can tear up and down Kubra Dam on those driving off huge cliffs while playing that 'Push it to the limit' Scarface song in their heads.

I don't want to sound insulting, but isn't it just common sense that if you aim the nose of a jet upwards with full throttle you will tend to go up? And if you want decrease altitude, you point downwards? There's no use setting throttle to 0, you'll stall and fall to your death. Also sounds like your joystick may need configuring if it's doing all mad stuff when you didn't do a thing. When you let go of the joystick, what happens? Does it fly forward perfectly level or throw a fit?

Go to your settings and then change your alternate fire button. then switch modes by pressing F ( i think that is the default) and then hit secondary fire and you will drop bombs.
