Re: Do you think medics ought to fight?

One solution is to get rid of grenades for medics and limit the amount of bags you can throw out/defibs without getting resupplied by a crate.

This should give the assault class some purpose again.

It is so easy to rack up the points as a medic.

Show me were a squad based medic does not carry a firearm. I think your mistaking Ambulances for medics.

        Yes they should.

We should also talk about this for the BAZILLIONTH time.

A DOCTOR is a special class under Geneva... they don't fight & are entitled to certain protections (i.e. don't bomb hospitals & ambulances, etc). OTOH, a combat medic who carries medical gear along with his rifle is, in the eyes of Geneva, just like any other combatant. If he were to use a red cross to protect himself while also carrying a rifle, that would be a problem. But nothing in Geneva conventions restricts combatants from performing first aid.

Read about PJ training & missions, or read about the medics in Black Hawk Down. They all carried guns, they were all combatants, none were "doctors" (per Geneva protections/restrictions), though some of them carried medical gear as well.

Is it true that 2142 combined medic & assault into one class?

"In most armies, medics wear specific insignia, with a prominent Red Cross on a white background. Islamic countries use a red crescent instead while Israeli medics wear the Magen David Adom (a red star of David on a white background). These symbols signify to enemy soldiers that the medic is a noncombatant, providing medical care. For many years, most medics have carried at least a side arm (and now, frequently a rifle, carbine or submachine gun), to be used as a defensive weapon. Medical personnel may be armed, but may only use their weapons to protect themselves or the wounded and sick in their care. If they use their arms offensively (i.e. attacking or assaulting), or carry arms that qualify as offensive (such as a sniper rifle, machine gun or grenade launcher), they then sacrifice their protection under the Geneva Conventions. Generally, a medic holding his/her weapon is considered to be an armed, military threat. According to the Geneva Convention, knowingly firing at a medic wearing clear insignia is a war crime."

So more of the stats padding then! "Hey guys lets all rack up even more points by selecting the assault + Medic class!"

                EA are terrible.
