I just ordered the right S-video cable off of e-bay so I wont have to run it into my VCR with RCA cables. Hopefully I get a lot better quality since it will be going straight from my vid card to my tv-card with only 1 S-video cable. Ill post back how it looks when it gets here.

What kind? I was tempted to buy a new one also but had to stop myself. Everytime I get on e-bay I end up spending money on junk that I never intended to buy in the first place. Its addictive.

Yea I have all in-game settings as low as possible plus that first video was captured with a ton of lost frames so it was going to look bad no matter what. I think the quality of what the tv card is actually capturing will improve with the s-video cable I bought. I hope so, if not then I lost $0.99 plus shipping. Shipping actually cost more than the cable itself cause the seller has a ton of them.

Re: use your tv-card to record in-game video!

Okay so my S-video cable showed up today and its soo much better than running it through the VCR then into the tv-card.

This video was compressed even more than the others because I used media center and recorded it as if it was a tv show. The way I was doing it before was completely uncompressed video that took up about 1.5gb per minute. I just recorded about 15 minutes with windows media center and the files was just a bit over 1gb.

The quality is just barely worse than uncompressed but the file size is a good trade off so ill be using that when I record from now on.

If you plan on trying this I would HIGHLY suggest buying an S-video to S-video cable. The quality is as good as it gets, especially if you have a huge hard drive and can make uncompressed avi's.

edit: im not sure wtf happened but the audio got out of sync when I uploaded it to putfile and those horizontal lines are back again. I think that has something to do with the WMV format because those lines dont show up with the original MPEG file.

My card can do "Home Theater", which means DivX. I record 3 minutes of video to take up 60 megs of space.

It's noticeably better than fraps, but it's still a bit choppy. Instead of dropping from 80 frames to 20, it'll drop to like 40 or 50. All in all, getting raptor drives aside, this is about as good as it will get for me.

                      I'm happy.

Does your card have a built in encoder? Most use an mpeg encoder built onto the card which will cause almost ZERO lag. My framerate doesnt change at all while im recording.

If I record uncompressed AVI it will lag my system a little but its not framerate lag its from my hard drive writing such a huge file and my proccessor having to do some extra work.
