Whenever you join a BF2 server, that server is added to your history. When you launch BF2, all the servers in your history are scanned at the "logging in" page, that's why sometimes it seems to hang and that's why deleting them speeds things up.

I recommend using BFCleaner though, it does the mods to your con file for you so there's no change of you deleting the wrong line of something.

i had this problem until someone suggested i delete all non-active servers in my favorites. so now that i only have active servers in my list the game logs me in in about 4-5 seconds. though i didnt delete the .con file, i went in game to delete the non-active servers.

I did the same thing, but I made the .con file read only, so it doesn't add any more favorites. Now I enjoy the speed. :)

go into your general.com files for each of your profiles and delete anything that doesn't begin with generalsettings.XXXX

think ill do that when i get home, but i have my icon set with my user/pass so it auto logs me in while i go off to get a drink :)
