Re: Question about High Points Servers...

I think a few people have said it correctly, its simply because you get more of a chance to meet the IAR requirements.

I was in a near empty server with some mates and scored 2 ribbons or badges or something that i didnt even know existed! i looked em up, turns out you need 45 and 50 team points respectively.

We play on that server a lot for 2 reasons - its never full and so is smacktard free; and because we get to know the other regulars on there, makes it much more fun

High points= artificial changes to gameplay mechanics, e.g. K&P, medics-only, kit/weapon restrictions, higher ticket ratio, no flag cap, etc,

Map size and slot count do not matter. Indianscout and the BF2RS forums have been very clear that big maps (64 player) with low slots (16 slots) are completely legal as long as the game is played normally.

I tested this theory last night as I was qualified for expert assault and AT but still needed the 40 kills IAR requirement.

I joined a 16 on 64, and after 8 quick rounds of dominating the opposition I still had no awards.

Then I joined a 64 on 64 with about 62 players present. Took me 2 rounds to get expert assault and 1 round to get expert AT.

Just being on 16 on 64 isn't enough in itself to aid with IAR requirements, the players must also cooperate (cheat) by not capping flags and causing ticket bleed, or leaving the opposition with a flag which is then spawn camped etc.

That may be the case, but could you explain why people that have been reported as "padders/cheaters" while on the 16/64 servers get their accounts wiped? No one seems to able to even try to offer a possible explanation for this.

            What is your point?

If EA considered 16p/64m "illegal" they could disallow it, just as they disallow lowering MinPlayersToStart. The classic "High Points" servers are all K&P and/or balanced flag caps (no ticket bleed). Karkand is so popular for these because all you have to do is let the US take the Hotel and then never cap another flag. This means the ticket count only goes down by kills. Since ticket count is a function of map size, not MaxPlayers, larger maps = more tickets = higher points IAR. Haven't checked recently but I thought for a while you couldn't run Map Size < Max Players (i.e. 64p/16m).

I agree with Graphic that limiting Map Size to Max Players would screw groups that can't only high slot counts. By that reasoning you could only play 64 maps if you had 64 slots.

Places that charge per slot are lame. They're running multiple instances on a big box which doesn't perform as well either. My group found a great deal at Insomnia where we pay for the Ranked box and can run as many slots/instances as it will handle up to our 2GB/mo bandwidth.

Well, I've never played on K&P or IO (back when they were illegal, that is) servers; but is 16 slots / 64 map any different from a Wake / Kubra / Whatever with 12-20 players on?

Take Chodda for example, I'll see him sometimes in these almost empty servers with 200+ scores... But I think that really doesn't matter as playing a full 64/64 it is way easier to attain a much higher SPM.
