In my opinion, that IS a HPS. It's also boring as all hell. Sitting in a server with the same map for over an hour? No thanks. You might say it is NOT a high point server, but the sole purpose of having the largest map is to gain high points, it sure is not for the competition or the teamwork aspect. It's somewhat hard to deny it.
Until there is an adequete definition within the ROE, It isn't a violation. Colin may believe that it is a violation yet I believe being as it's not in the R.O.E. - Not every server admin has access to that forum or that post - it hasn't been posted publicly so... So be it.

Ultimately, server admins will do what they want at least until someone starts delisting servers. I'm not preaching how poeple should or should not run their servers here. It seems quite a conflict because there is a camp that says ROE are NOT officially sanctioned by EA/Dice, even though the highest percentage of players that have been wiped have been reported through ROE/BF2RS. These are the ones that look for the word of EA/Dice on the matter.
Then you have the other camp that says that until EA/DICE says so, they will strictly listen to ROE, no matter what. To me it seems like a way to justify blatant abuse of the global scoring system and conveniently side with the camp that offers the best justification/context under which they can exploit the rules.

EDIT: Maybe ROE has not defined it because EA/Dice has already done so?

1.4.1 Custom maps are never permitted on ranked servers, although we do permit map sizes to be defined independently of maximum players.

I respect you and can see it from your point of view, but please, just look at it from mine now. I have two major points -
        • The post you quoted is in no way quoted in the ROE - actually, it contradicts it!
        • The post you quoted has never been publicly posted or shown

EA have the rights to wipe us for violations of the ROE, but for violations of a post by a DICE employee that the majority of server admins can't even view?!

We're strictly abiding by the ROE - As far as I can see, anyone with the knowledge of the ROE should be supporting us as it's completely legitimate.

i say let them be, what difference does it make that someone wants to sit in a round for all that time and make possibly 400 points. thats up to them isnt it? on another note..what if ALL 16 players in THAT server at THAT time all argeed they would only use pistols/knifes/paddles for combat? and in no way was it enforced to do so by the server admin / server rules? just the players playing agreed to do it.......its up to the players.

Note that 400 is the commander's DOUBLED score and completely normal gameplay went on: no knives/pistols/that other bullcrap.

Nah... If we could have BattleRecorder... we would. If you want a copy of the chat log to prove that it wasn't, it can be arranged :).

We're not ROE-Breakers... You should know that baggins

Re: Who says scores of 400+ are illegitimate

I do understand that point of view lemony. However, the truth is that some people that have been caught playing on those servers (16/64) have indeed been wiped. That is the ONLY point I am making. I personally know of 4 people that have had their stats reset because they were frequenting servers with that particilar configuration.

Stats of course are not the most important aspect of this game to everyone, some use it as a measure f their own performance. Then, I've seen some extract a diluted sense of real world superiority because they are "Colonels" and "Generals". I'm sure for those people having that included in their resume will get them that sweet upper management job:
                -Graduated Harvard Law School "Valedictorian"
-Worked for Peace Corps post Hurricane Katrina delivering aide to displaced citizens
-Participated in Middle East Peace talks in order to bring an end to "War on Terror"
-Was a 4 star General in Battlefield 2, with over 400,000 points overall, numerous Gold medals, using all unlock, and other citations for excellence in my uber leet combat.

But I digress, it's true that not everyone can see that forum or the complete thread, BUT any server admin can become a member of the Server Owners Lounge here and view it in it's entire context. It's every server admins responsibility though to read and understand the ToS, EULA, and ROE. Whether they decide to abide by it is completely independent of everything else. It's the same logic as say stealing a car, you get busted and you don't get to go to jail because you did not know there was a law against it? Hmm...

If we did just allow this and say it's fine then we have a few hunded people that might have been reset/wiped due to misinformation. We would also have to stop chastizing the knife and pistol servers stat padding would therefore be legitimized.

Believe me, I would love to see what the final word on this would be. Personally, I would not risk it.
                That's just my $.02, I'm done.

Re: Who says scores of 400+ are illegitimate

At the end of the day, BF2 stats still wont get you a date guys, sorry.

What you guys are doing isn't a battle, but rather a case of follow the leader around the map capping flags then having them capped back by the enemy. Not my style, but to each their own I suppose.

Sure you went 50-0 on Wake in your j10, 80-5 in a tank on Karkand, 75-5 in a chopper on Sharqi, but it's just a game fellas. Your stats mean jack all to us. If you get a million points in a round, earn every medal, then sobeit. If you altered the style of gameplay to your own personal advantage (stats), rather then to play the game like it should be (war), then it would be a very, very different story.

Wipe them clean. A cheat is a cheat. You're not cheating me, but yourself.

                  It's a game, remember that.

16 players on 64 man maps IS ok

legal or not, its lame beyond all that is lame in the world.

Its an attempt to circumvent the roe and general common sense. I'll never play on a server like that, if its a 64 sized map, I'd expect to find 64 on it, not 2 teams of 8 driving in circles capping flags - sounds like the gameplay is as exciting as watching paint dry..

This is exactly what I've always thought woulod happen to this game because of a global stats system.

It's all come down to people doing whatever they think will get them easy points.
Whether it's hacking, glitching, exploiting, spamming, whoring, ect, ect.
They will all ride the line of the ROE because int he long run they know that most of them will probably get away with it.

The BF series has changed from playing for fun to playing for fame. And 2142 will only be worse.

I'm done with BF2 and will only be playing mods AND looking for a BF replacement meanwhile.
EA has ruined this franchise for me.

High points servers, that is the most retarded thing I have ever heard...

Sure, you may get high points, like 400+, but you are playing 1-2 hours, just to get those points...

If you figure an average 64 player map lasts 15 minutes lets say... Say I am on wake, and I get a jet... I get... 60 kills lets say.. that right there is 120 points alone, in just 15 minutes... then lets say from then on I got 40 kills every round... that is 80 points each (even though, if I got a jet towards the beginning it would be more, this is an example)

                            So 120 (15 min) + 80 (30 min) + 80 (45 min) + 80 (1 hour)

Just that alone already equals 360, and that is just at 1 hour...

Now also remember, if you only have ~16 people, and it's on a 64 player map... which is HUGE....

You will have ALOT of trouble trying to find enemies... so you would probably only end up with ~100 kills or so at the end of the round anyways...

Honestly.. I see no point of calling them "high points servers" IMO you are better off playing a bunch of FULL 64 player maps, because it's like catching fish in a bucket for 15 minutes, or trying to catch fish in a river for a day...

If EA/DICE did not want a 64 size map with just a few players in it (High Points) then why did they lower the requirements to start a round with 1.4???

Second, everyone keeps saying that the you really do not score more points in thease servers based on time. Menaing that 2 hours in HPS points are equal to 2 hrs in regular servers points. While this is true, it is about getting awards /badges/ ribbons/ medals. It is much easier to make IAR requirements with extremmly long rounds.

But seriously, if the creators did not want large maps spacly populated, why did they lower the player requirement to start rounds?

PROBABLY the players in the server were messing around letting the other team kill them millions of times. Or they werent capturing flags or statpadders!
