First of all, the reason I'm doing this, is mainly I'm a big sniper and wanted to help some of the other snipers out..not to mention, theres only one or two really good sniper guides out there.
First of all, I'll go over the rifles.
USMC Rifles
*DEFAULT RIFLE*M24: This rifle is bolt action, meaning you must take out the shell manually each shot basicly, therefore, this rifle can only be fired every 5 seconds about.Accuracy wise, this is one of the best rifles in the game. Right next to the L96A1, great for medium-long- Extreme distance combat. Heres how the bullet drop goes for this rifle.
At about ranges of 150m* Go about..2Milimeters above the intended target, at about 250+ meters, go for around 5millimeters. (These bullet drop estimations are from personal experiance) The downside to the M24, is it has a very unique *CRACK* when fired. When using the M24, I can not stress the fact enough that sitational awareness is critical for this weapon, due to its unique noise, you MUST be sure no enemys are near.
The M24 sound can be heard at a good 50-80 meters away.
Chinese Sniper Rifles
*DEFAULT RIFLE*Type 88This rifle, unlike the USMC rifle, is semi-automatic. Now for those of you do not know what semi-automatic means, it means it will fire a round each time the trigger is pulled. Semi-Automatic rifles also have deviation, so each shot you take(If in quick bursts) will become less accurate, so with this rifle, I GREATLY advise you take a 3-5 second pause between shots. Personaly, I hate the Semi-Auto rifles, horrible for long range sniper, and I'm a long range sniper. Power wise, this rifle isn't the greatest, it takes 3 shots to torso to kill. As for bullet drop, I'm not sure. I rarely, EVER, use Semi-Automatic rifles. The last time I used one was when I was a PVT.
MEC Rifles
*DEFAULT RIFLE*SVD
*Read Type 88 Notes, the only different between these two rifles are the scopes*
*The SVD has a more difficult/confusing scope, it has an arrow shape in the middle..takes a while to get use to, the Type 88 has a scope much like the L96, very sleek, a better scope for long range snipng*
The above two rifles are great for close-medium range sniping/sqaud support.
Types of Snipers
There are mainly 3 types of snipers.
Long Range Snipers
These snipers, such as myself, favor long range combat. They usally tend to stay off 200+ meters from the targeted area they're watching, If your a long range sniper, Only use Bolt-Action rifles. Bolt-Action rifles are MUCH, MUCH better for long-range sniping, they're more accurate and have less bullet drop.
Medium Range Snipers
These snipers, favor medium range combat, and tend to be one the move more than long range snipers. When I feel like going Medium Range, I usally stay about 100-80 meters from my targeted area. Medium range snipers usally get more kills..but also deaths. you will find enemys in the targed area much fast, and not have to worry about bullet drop when you fire at them, but your more likely to be found. Bolt-Action is still a great choice for medium-range sniping, but Semi-Automatic can be terrificly helpful.
Close Range Snipers
I rarely do close range sniping, its just not my style. But heres what I know about them. They are COSNTANTLY on the move and tend to use Semi-Automatic rifles more, they don't watch over areas like other snipers do, they get right next to enemy lines and snipe whoever they see. Close-Range snipers make there shots at around 40-80 meters away, the same rule applys to as it does to the medium sniper, they(Close range snipers) also get more kills, but also more deaths. Much more likely to be found. And of course when your a close-range sniper, these rles are greatly emphasized.
Then, theres the so-called "In your face sniper", I don't count these guys as snipers, sniping by my standard is taking out from a decent range away, not 5 feet away, say what you will, but "Close range snipers" are not snipers in my book.(Thats why I din't count them as the 4th type of sniper)
*SNIPING TIPS*
For the love of God, BE PATIENT AND DON'T RUSH YOU SHOTS, yes this is a common sence rule, But I can't emphasize it enough, its VERY important to only fire when you know you'll hit them..if your not sure, then don't fire, keep waiting for the right oppurtunuity (sp?)
Bullet drop: Already covered in the "Types of Rifles" section.
Another thing, there IS bullet speed, 100-150 meters, only fire around 2millimeters ahead of them. 150-200, Fire at around 5 millimeters ahead. 200-250, 1 Cm. 250-300, 1.3 Cm.
If your firing at a stationary tarket, wait 2Seconds before the shot and focus(This tip has been posted many times before, and its a great tip) You'll hit your target mch easier when you do this, it gives you a little for time to think "Is the bullet drop right?", "Does he look like hes about to move?(Maybe hes scanning the area? Setting mines?) If you sure all of your variables are how they should be, FIRE!.
Pay attention to who your firing at, if you see an enemy spawn behind another enemy, chances are the person he spawned behind is a sqaud leader. TAKE OUT THE SQAUD LEADER BEFORE THE SQAUD MEMBER! If you kill someone, and an enemy comes up and revives them, before killing the person you killed before, KILL THE MEDIC THAT REVIVED HIM! to prevent further revives/heals. If you see a guy behind a TOW, and another guy behind a turret, TAKE OT THE TOW! He is more of a threat to your allies than the machine gunner. Always pay attention to what each enemy does, figure out there class by there actions(Do they revive? Set mines? Repair vehicles? Have a ghillie suit on?".
I will list the top priority targets in an order. 1 behind the TOP priority, 8 being the one not to worry about much.
1.Commander
2.Sqaud leaders
3.Medics
4.Snipers
6.Support
6.Anti-Tank(Anti-Tank and Support are tied)
7.Engineers
8.Assault
Keep moving, don't stay in a spot for too long(Even if its the godliest spot..keep moving)
Don't hide in the grass and be like "ZOMG, NO ONE WILL EVUR SEE ME!!111" Well they will, because grass doesn't render 10+ meters away..so hide behind tree trunks, rocks, etc.
Another great, great, tip, which can earn you an extra 3-5 kills per round..is USE YUR DAMN CLAYMORES!! They're there for a reason, use them. Use them in common trafic areas, sat them next to a door that enemys pass through frequently, on top of ladders that lead to your position so no one can sneak up behind you, or at flag points where enemys will try to be taking soon. But if friendly fire is on for mines/claymores, BE MORE CAUTIOUS! MUCH MORE!, I would nly reccomend setting them on top of ladders leading to you position if mine FF is one, because friendlys will be at flags, walk through all the doors..etc. So please, don't be an idiot and place a claymore at a flag your team has cotnrol of thinking the enemy will be there soon(Well, if mine friendly fire is on..) If not..claymore away.
Vary your positions, don'tgo to the same spot round after round, get a mix of elevated, slightly elevate, and ground positions so your enemy will always be guessing where you are.
MOVE WITH YOUR TEAM AND WORK WITH YOUR SQAUD! Everyone thinks snipers are little lonewolfs who do nothing to for there team..oh contrare, if you move with your sqaud/team, you will be much more effective.
CALL OUT ENEMYS FOR GOD'S SAKES! I'm tired of snipers never calling out enemys, if you miss a target, CALL THEM OUT! (With commo rose of course)
Especially if they're in armor, or an enemy sniper. not only is a snipers duty is to kill infantry at long range, but to recon and call out enemys. You will save many lives by simply calling out an enemy tank or sniper.
Use your knife and pistol, they're there for a reason, when your on the move, have your pistol out. If your in a building, have your knife out, if you have your knife and see someone, sprint up, go prone and get em' in the ankles/waist.
When your using your pistol, fire in very quick bursts, as fast as you can, and aim for the head/upper torso. Also, USE COVER, when you run out of rounds for a pistol, or any weapon for that matter, get behind the nearest cover while reloading. Pop out, and continue to engage the enemy. Another great pistol tactic, if you fire at someone with your sniper rifle and hit. Take out your pistol and fire a few rounds at them. If they're around 50-70 meters away, chances are you'll hit them and get the kill. :)
Thats all I can think of right now, if I come up with more tips..I'll add them, feel free to add tips of your own.
Hope this Guide was helpful.
Also, have fun reading this bagillion word essay that took me an hour
I'll go fix the typos later, I know I probably made many, And I'll fix em later..not now though, if you can call out any to me I'd be grateful.
