Just a quick update.

Ive carried out a few suggestions from some of the replies which have been posted against my original problem . These are as follows :-

Delete Cache forcing BF2 into re-caching and optimizing shaders etc.
Defragging Installation drive.

The effects of the above so far are good. No stuttering, and no Graphic errors when Zooming your weapon. Its by no means exhaustive testing as i only had change to test Strike at Karkland, but if im lucky i should be able to get my 10 week old baby off to sleep before i drop to sleep myself which will allow a bit more testing to make sure its playing as it should be.

But things are looking positive. I hope i havent Jinxed myself by saying that tho !! I will post another update soon. Cheers and thanks to all that have helped me........

Well im glad that you are doing well so far. And i hope that those problems are gone for good but to be on a safe side you have to knock on wood Well now i have some questions for you. At what settings can you play battlefield with your setup i presume that you have all the settings maxed. Because im sort of seeking for a anwser if it is worth it to upgrade to 2gig of memory because i didnt find the best settings at which i could play without stuttering but i cant justify another upgrade because i have alredy topped my budget when i bought this card and all my other games play at high settings just battlefield is getting me some stutters:hmm:

Hi Sheldin.

Well the original reason for upgrading from my GeForce 7900GT OC, was to improve the AA and AF settings. I used to run everything Maxed out with the Ge-Force and overclock it further (520GPU and 760Mem) to allow 2xAA and 0xAF.

I could run at 4xAA and 4xAF but could'nt gurantee smooth gameplay on 64player servers when things got busy. Looking at the performance benefits of the newly released X1900XT 256Mb i knew i should be able to reach maxed out 1280*1024 settings with 4xAA and AF, even on really open maps with 64 players battling it out heavily.

So these are the settings im curently running at, and for now its perfect. I will try and push things further. I cant change the resolution cos im on a 8ms Samsung 19" TFT, and therefore stuck at 1280*1024, but i can vouch for more RAM. When i upgraded my machine from Athlon XP 3200 Barton, to an Athlon 64 3200+ i only originally bough 1Gb of RAM.

After playing BF2 and having issues with load times, (GFX card back then was an ATI X800XT 256Mb PCI-E) i decided to buy a further 1Gb, and the difference it made was HUGE. I didnt test Graphical performance between the 2 sizes of memory, but since BF2 requires around 1.25-1.4Gb of Memory im pretty certain i would have improved GFX frame rates. It ceertainly boosted load times NO END !!

Anyways, Ive only just got the Baby to sleep so im not in a position to test anything right now (Just gone 11pm UK time and work tomorrow), but i will do some exhaustive testing soon. I'll also pull out 1Gb and try and do a comparitive test between running 1 and 2Gb for you, so you'll know what performance increase to expect for the investment in more RAM. CHeers

Thats wery kind of you ,but you dont have to do such an intensive test for me because i have another machine at home with 512mb of memory to test it in my rig i just have to find the will and time to do it and i can get another stick from a friend to test the benefit of 2gig without buying it yet. Just another quick question how is it having 4 sticks of memory performance and stability wise and do you have all of them the same brand? Because previously when i had socket 754 athlon it didnt like different branded sticks and im afraid i wont be able to find another 2 of the brand and speed i curently have And i also have 8ms 19inch samsung monitor so we probably have the same picture and 1280x1024 is more than enough for mine light gaming

Hey Sheldin,

My Boy is alseep right now so im catching up on Hardware sites and Forums. I have the VERY excellent DFI but at times tempramental Motherboard, and Memory HAS been an issue. I remember buying around 5Gb of memory in total when i bought it just to get the god damn thing to boot. Various BIOS's suited various memory types etc. I strugled getting Corsair working with the board, especially 4x512Mb sticks. I could only run 2x512Mb sticks at one point due to differing memory modules used on the same model code.

Then Anandtech came up with their Performance memory round up and the OCZ Value VX series. It used the same memory chips as their top of the line memory did, but the Value VX series was'nt speed binned (Tested) so you paid your money and take ya chance but if you feed it enough Volts it flys at tight timings, and luckily DFI boards can feed Memory lots of V's !!

So for my current system i have absolute 100% stability. I cant remember the last time i had a BSOD. Getting to the stability took around 2-3 weeks as i was constantly ordering / selling RAM (EBAY became my best freind for selling on the RAM i couldnt/didnt use) which wouldnt work in the configurations i wanted too, but like i said, its 100% stable, and im running 4x512Mb sticks each identical to the next. I know from other guys on the DFI STREETS forum that 2x1Gb sticks is a better option but at the time i bought this board 1Gb sticks didnt come cheap, so i have what i have, and im VERY happy wih it.

Anyways, im going to cram in some BF2 and give it a more thorough spin.

You might want to check out the Rage3d.com forums as there are a few of us with the same problem of massive stuttering(HD Access) and Black Textures. For most of us 6.7 is the last great driver, Catalyst 6.8,6.9,6.10 Beta all result in problems. I have gone through a few complete game re-installs aswell as complete system installs but no fix. Im still on Catalyst 6.7 because of these issues.

Well i did manage to get a decent amount of Time in BF2 yesterday. All is working prefectly, just as it did with my Ge-Force 7900GT OC, although i can now run higher settings. Fingers crossed it stays this way !!!

Hy there i also had some spare time to test my machine with 1.5 gig of memory and i have to say that it was like night and day with no stuttering atall with the highest settings and anitaliaising. Its a shame i had to retutn that stick of memory so my family can use the other computer :p And i curently have no money to get myself another stick or two. Well maybe ill get lucky again because i have graphic card being serviced in my local shop and if they dont fix it in 45 days i can get a total refund or another product and i already have something that i would like in my mind
