    ATI X1900XT 256Mb Problem with BF2

    Hey all,

I know i havent updated my siggy yet, but thats because im soo eager to submit this post. Ive just put in my new ATI X1900XT 256Mb , after removing and un-installing everything to do with my 7900GT OC. Ive played FEAR-Combat, with maxed out settings and 4xAA/4xAF and it plays smooth as a babies bum (No soft Shadows tho). Even on Deadwood. (Res @ 1280*1024)

So then i moved onto BF2, and upped my both AF and AA to x4 settings (Again 1280*1024) and everything else was maxed out anyway. Having tried to play it, all i can say is im GOBSMACKED. The Game stutters all over the place, and if i try and ZOOM using any of the weapons i get a completely BLACK screen apart from the Flag positions and Map /compass in top RHS of screen. Its Bizarre and i have no idea how to fix it. My ping was 35 BTW.

It probably isnt anything to do with it, BUT..... Im having to run the card in the Second of the PCI-E slots (AS i did with my BFG 7900GT OC Card before it) because I has to replace my Chipset HSF as the original DFI one developed a VERY annoying whine. I still havent found one LOW profile enough to allow me to switch back to PCI-E No. 1 port and 16x again.

This problem is really anoying me, as FEAR which i believe is a more graphically intensive game runs fine, yet BF2 has issues !! Can anyone help? Im pretty certain this rules out any bandwidth issues i might be having with running at 8X PCI-E.......... although your comments are welcome :)

Did you set AA with ATI Control Panel or with Batllefield? Verify that in Ati Control Panel under AA, that the box "Let application decide" is checked.

OK, ive added my Signature now so you should see my Base set-up but i have plenty of decent RAM. (Relatively speaking i have an High End system - Until Intel brought out their Core 2 Duo)

As for the Settings. My AF 4x setting is set in the ATI control Panel along with the Quality AF Tick Box. The AA setting in the ATI control Panel is set to Application controlled. So in BF2 the AA setting is set to 4X.

LookNoHands, do you even know what your talking about? 236mb?

Its sayz 236Mhz, which is running DDR making it 472Mhz DDR, which is not slow for DDR running at 1:1 ratio's !! DDR2 is where the speed hikes really jump !!

Lets just keep it constructive eh? Me still has a problem with playing my FAV game

Try running yours at 472Mhz DDR like mine is and see if you can Boot into Windows :P

Suggest phone ATI's customer support. They're fairly helpful

I have the same problem plus sound corruption since I installed my X1900GT V2. Zoom get video corruption, sometimes in the game too.

                      Hey Quebecer,

I also get Sound Distortion / Jumpiness at the very start, and then it starts to settle down after 3 mins or so, but the game is effectively unplayable due to the previously mentioned problems i have with Game stutter and Zoom mode display corruption. Me thinks ATI have a serious problem to solve here. Ive already Posted in HEXUS.NET - ATI Customer Care section and the DFI forums for assistance, but ive had more responses in this Forum than the other two put together !!

Hy there i have registered here just to help you ;-) Well not really because we have a lot in common and can help each other. I also have such card as you have and i also sometimes get problems you described like all black screen when zooming with weapons and a lot of stuttering and i think i came across a temporary solution. First i have to ask you did you reinstall the game when you switched to ati? If not that must be the key because the shaders are not optimized for your card and you get lot of stuttering and screen coruptuion. For starters go to your documents and find your battlefield 2 folder then go to mods folder and then to bf2 folder or something and then delete the cache folder and then optionaly defragment your harddrive. Next time when you will load a map your shaders will get optimized and probably you wont have any problems with screen coruption. But dont start playing yet go out of the game and again defragment your harddrive this will help you with your stuttering problem. And for changing anitialaising and antistropic filtering only use ingame menu not control center and whenever you change your settings or you upgrade to a new driver you will have to repeat this proces. Well if you came this far you should be once more enjoying your favourite game and remember if it doesnt work the first time try again. I hope this was helpfull to you and to others if they have simmilar problems. Over and out

sounds to me like u havea driver error. Did u use driver cleaner to remove the nvidia drivers before installing the ATI card.

Try reverting to some older ATI drivers.

Hey Sheldin, Im pretty certain that the Stuttering is nothing to do with Hardrive activity since their is non during game play. Ive deleted my Cache, but due to numerous torrent downloads ive not tried the game yet. Tomorrow morning i will give it another try and see what happens (will also give me a chance to defrag drive again although it was'nt two weeks ago that i did it last)

Thanks for your help and i will keep you upto date !!

Its not that it would read to often from your harddrive because you have more then enough memory to run this game stutter free on the highest settings its just better to have your optimized cache folder all together and not have it scatered through your harddrive and that its why i recomend all the defragmenting. Well im curently using Cat 6.9 and have the same problem if there are visual artefacts there is a lot of stuttering and sound coruption and i have to repeat that process several time so that it corectly optimizes my cache and i can play stutter free. I play at 1280x1024 everything on high just ligtning and shadowing on med and with 4x aa and sometimes its smooth and sometimes i get this annoying problem
