Let me start by saying I've been a fan of the Ace Combat series for PS2. It's the only console game I play - so lets not start a PC vs. console war.
So I started thinking on how to make a mini-mod that is the MOST FUN you can get WITH THE BF2 ENGINE that may SATISFY THE FLYBOYS.
And here's the idea:
Troybobs Ultimate Dogfight BF2 Mini-mod (probably not possible):
Basic Concepts:
0. There is no infantry/tank battles
-------You'r in a jet or you're defending the base
-------Tickets go down only on death (lower tickets
-------to compensate)
1. Inclusion of AWACS support.
-------When AWACS reaches 900+ altitude, all enemy
-------targets are shown. All jets are viewable.
-------AWACS destroyed results in 2 minute-AWACS
-------respawn period.
-------Protect the Awacs or dogfighters fight
-------blind. Mecahnics based on much faster
-------and infinite boundry uav. AWACS required
-------to fly high and avoid contact.
..Options of Entry:
.........a)Normal. Guy gets in and takes off.
.........b)Commander selection: easy right?
2. Enhanced flight Characteristics:
-------Jets respond better and break faster.
-------AWACS support means total situational
-------awareness.
3. Enhanced missile guidance
-------No more jerky missiles.
-------Missile manuevers smoothly to estimate
-------break pattern needed. Missile launch
-------precision plus enemy manuevers ensures
-------sure dogfighting. Fire your missile in the
-------correct flight path (missile inherits jet
-------vector/velocity) to ensure greater
-------accuracy.
4. Need for custom map
-------Map would be 2 penninsulas. Both jutting
-------from opposite corners of the map. No
-------infantry-survivable spots besides water and
-------air-strip. Either get airborne or get in
-------defenses around airbase.
-------Areas besides air-strip = water or red-zone
Example:
5. Need for commander-based anti-air arty.
-------To prevent extended base-raps, allow commander
-------access to arty that fires without delay
-------and decimates a large area only between
-------high and mid-altitude settings.
-------Enemy fighters over base are destroyed.
-------Long recharge ensures less TK's.
-------Limited deployement (via cartillery fix)
-------allows only deployement of limited range.
-------(over your own base only for emergencies).
6. Everyone gets a jet.
-------Think of No Fly Zone in DC. Or Coral Sea
-------in Bf42. Same concept here.
7. Multiple and very deadly Airbase defenses
-------Pretty straight-forward.
8. Multiple missile types
-------Create jets with different missile types.
-------Create multiple tracking missiles,
-------quick homing missile, quick guidance
-------missiles depending on which jet you choose
-------to fly (which one you enter)
9. Multiple lock levels (impossible I know).
-------Have one lock level for tracking. You can
-------track at any distance within 500 meters.
-------Tracking gives you a line to target.
-------Only when target is within reticle can
-------lock occur
10. (optional) Refueling craft.
-------Much like the refueling craft in the second
-------installement of DC_F (never released), a
-------refueling aircraft is added in the 64p map.
-------Re-arming is now possible both at the
-------airstrip itself, but also if you fly close
-------to the boom of the refueling aircraft (also
-------repairs).

11. (optional) Radio chatter
-------You know that voice-over everyone hates?
-------turn it on and hear the voice chatter.
12. (optional) No parachutes.
