TeamSpeak is great for ease of use, but Ventrilo has superior sound quality. But TeamSpeak still gets my vote!

By default settings, ventrilo is broadcasting a 22hz, change the voice format to 3, (44hz) and it's crystal clear. Teamspeak on the other hand has yet to offer a codec of great clarity. Usually 'speex 12.3' is the most common being used, yet it too sounds horrible in comparison to TS.

I run both servers and both clients. Vent is the way to go.

Vent has the better sound quality, by far. Always has.

I like the phonetic name reproduction in Vent except most jackaninnies don't use it properly. You always get the bonehead who puts his clan tags in and doesn't spell his name phonetically.

You can trick the program by using odd combinations of letters and spaces to make your name sound much better then just spelling it out.

diss figerd works almost perfectly for me in VENT.

The devs on the TS forum said the beta will be released in october, then the final version in nov/dec.

I've been playing BF2 for a over a half year now,but yesterday i played for the first time with TS on.Cause I've to play at an internet cafe and don't know alot about comps. I didn't bother.But because they had to reinstall BF2 suddenly there was TS.
Played as gunner in a chopper on dragonvalley and this guy(the pilot) invites me into his team.
And there it was.......
I know it's just a game,i know i'm almost 37,i know it's crazy, but it adds so much to the game....it's great!!
You really feel like a team and you really feel like you're responcible for the other, so you try your best to survive and get a decent score for the two of you.
I've gone from supernoob to just noob...maybe there is hope.

It sounds to me like the OP finally used the in-game VOIP. How would reinstalling BF2 make TS suddenly be there? The OP specifically says that someone invited him to join a squad and they were able to talk. That's the in-game VOIP working, not TS.......

i use teamspeak and i find there is nothing wrong with the sound quality. it may not be perfect but it is certainly good enough.

Ventrilo is the best program as far as voice quality.. well it depends on the server, but anything is better than TS.

well for me TS is fine cause as long as I can hear the person I am fine dont really care about sound quality

The experience really is enhanced infinitely when you are able to coordinate and communicate so easily with somebody.

If only more pople used VoIP!

Like others have mentioned, if you enjoyed that so much, I suggest you look for a clan. The game is a whole different thing when you are playing and communicating with a bunch of other people.

no TS and Vent are stand alone programs, you connect to them and then you can talk to anyone on that particular TS/Vent server without even going into the game, you can play any game you want

I used to get on TS with a bunch of buddies when we played online poker together, whole different experience of on-line poker

as for preference, I have both because I have friends in some clans that only use one or the other, but I prefer TS because the sound quality seems better to me and that is what everyone in my clan uses

HS, oooold thread. But yea, I first used Vent back when I played BHD for about 1-2 years. And when I moved over to TS at first I hated it. But I progressively came to the realization how retarded VENT really is compared to TS.

Vent > TS...used both and vent sounds much better. tho it doesn't have many options like TS does.
