We were hacked. Several times over the past two weeks, in fact.
While all passwords are encrypted and salted, it's recommended that you change your password here when you can.
This worries me because i can't count on both hands how many times i've booted up my pc, only to find that the clock is 3 hrs behind. Maybe this is a XP problem. I will sue micro**** if they get me banned because thier operating systems are made out of lincoln logs...

It means you can't sue them for anything their crappy OS does to you.
As someone said earlier.....If the key was stolen by someone then the hardware ban would apply to the hardware of that person NOT the OP. If it truly is your HW that is banned it doesn't appear to be that difficult to circumnavigate the ban... Just google and there are all sorts of tricks e.g running HD in raid removes the GUID associated with either drive etc...If you really want to play you can do it.
With all of the nutball conspiracy theories going here I just had to post.
It is utterly simple, if any aspect of the OS fights back against PB it will auto kick you due to suspicion of cheating. Some spywares will fight back against or prevent PB from completing its job. If you keep trying to play on PB secured servers with this condition it may ban your key.

It was the same thing...got some wierd error during install but the install finished so I thought all was good. I never cheated in any way shape or form. I didnt post here cause I know how the comunity generally reacts and didnt want to defend myself. Long story short...just get a new cd key. I did and havent had a problem since. I opened a ticket with PB and got the same canned response as you.
I downloaded a spyware removal tool, ran it and cleaned my system. Bought a new copy of the game and uninstalled the old. Installed patched to 1.4 and have been good ever since. So it is definately not a hardware ban.
You could ummm ****ahem*** return the game where you got it and exchange it.

seriously do the following and dont let them rip you off, any of the guys in support dont give a toss about your individual problem, their task is to close your case ASAP
a) Hound EA support until you get a legitimate answer, if you dont get a satisfactory one ask for a refund, if thats not possible( they agreed to refund me when i badgered them contineously about 1.3 being a piece of crap, i never took it up as i sorted most of my crashes by using 1.3 incremental ) ask or a diferent EA game( at least you wont have lost your money )
b) At the same time hound punkbuster, they need to provide all the information to you for a legitimate ban, this includes, software( or software type ) used to try and bypass punkbuster, your ip address, the time when they detected this, and how to proceed
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES buy a new CD key, dont satisfy the corporations, if youre desperate for a game of BF2 then in that case buy a new one, but hound them until they give you a new key for your current copy, at least you can sell one of your copies and get some of your money back. I would make it my mission to keep their support so busy that its cheaper for them to just give you a new key and the support guys will eventually get pissed off :) ( hey theyre only people doing a job )
wow, thanks for the support guys. I am not giving up and am taking more steps to get this recognized and see if I can get some action taken.
orphious2006 - thanks for sharing. I hope this is the same situation with me. I will post the results. I am going to purchase the game again soon and as Imimmfn suggests, if I do ge some sort of reinbursement I will put it on ebay or something, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed because if I get a hardware ban, it will cost even more $$ to fix this as I will need to replace my hard drives.
good luck dude, as for the hardware ban, no, not harddrive replacement you need to replace your network card to get a new MAC address, at least its cheaper probably $20-30

All I an say is Walmart!!! Take the game back and tell them it wont install and exchange it for a new copy.....should be able to do it with out a reciept.
Actually PB does not police hacks rather even balance does. Initially your Key is banned called a guild ban. As you know your game is checked continuously as you play (it infact causes some lag issues) and one feature of rented hacks is a block of this check. The result is a guild ban.Even balance makes a list of hardware in the computer used to run the hack. The list is called a hash it has mac addresses of the hardware. When you purchase a new game with a new key and log into a ranked server considering you are using the same computer ,here comes the hardware ban.The remedy is to use a different computer or change out a minimum of 75% of the hardware in the hash. Once you accomplish that even balance will no longer recognize the computer as being the one in the hash and you then can play the game on it. As far as not catching very many people when I was researching hackers and even balance they caught 305 people one Saturday.Not a joke 305 in one day--the problem is that no one believes that all those guys were hacking.It is my belief from a good deal of research that if you hack for very long they will catch you.The guild ban is a easy fix but if you have a custom gaming computer it can get expensive fast. I don't know all of the items in the hash but all hard drives are as well as any network cards all your ethernet ports. In short you have a mess on your hands and the utilities that are supposed to alter these numbers do not work all the time and can cause problems themselves.
Even balance polices hackers in a game we all love that is true. Does the punishment fit the crime. No definitely not the police cannot invade your home without a warrant and even balance does it every day. They render your computer worthless as far as the game is considered even if you are not running a hack anymore and the ban is for life. Damn men don't go to prison for life for murder anymore in most cases and they have an appeal paid for by you and me. We warn players for rules violations once, minimum why cant even balance at least do that then lower the hammer if they don't quit. Then the dummies would deserve it maybe. A life time sentence for first offense no appeal. I hate cheaters but thats ridiculous.
