I like that fact that you get ulocks for pts, however I wouldnt mind not having the whole ranking and badges and stuff. I just play for the fun of it. Thats what the game was made for, not to see if you can get more pts then your friends.

Ranking is also to sorta put you in place and make you do what you need to do. If there wern't ranking people would TK TK, run around being Arses not caring to improve. It's sorta like your dignity... Don't ruin it.

But now, few servers have any players and the cheating is a bit much. Cant wait for Cod 3. Maybe EA/Dice should have gone down that road. Fun first, then stats.

Its almost as if they modeled that game around the stats, not the stats around the game.
i don't play bf2 just for stats heck when i first got i didn't even have a clue about stats

I think the stats are a double edged sword. I personallylove playingBF2 and the rankings and achivement awards are part of the appeal to me. It gives the game extra life and new dimensions. For example, had the stats not been in the game or the awards system there would have been, little or no incentive for me to lay as allof the various types of class ofsoldier. I probably wouldnt play as Support ever. I'd have never even bothered flying the jets, and I would never have bothered being an assault class.

I also like how the ranking system highlights experienced players, obviously i think its foolish to believe the rankings are to be taken as a measure of skill, as thats just not the case, but they do and should signify experience, which is an important attribute for players.

I truly believe that the Ranking system in place has been the number one cause for me losing my love of this game. Great idea in principal, but horrible in practice.

IF you were to keep the Ranks, medals, ribbons and badges as well as the statistics, the people that track and adjust gameplay by them could be happy. The whole idea of tying "grades" of weapons to rank as an unlock should have been killed in the conceptual meetings. This single function has been the cause of the padders and cheats. Much more so than any ribbon or badge.

Earning something to sew onto your sleeve, pin on your collar or chest is one thing, but unlocks is ludacris.

If they wanted that many weapons to be in the game, then why not just make them pick-up kits for specific maps or as customization of character options based on map/mission specific demands.

I will leave BF2 in the dust as soon as Desert Conflict comes out. BF2 was a wonderful idea, but my overall enjoyment of this game is nothing compared to the joy I STILL get from playing BF42 Desert Combat. In fact, I only purchased BF2 BECAUSE of Desert Combat and BF2's early ad campaign touting it as DC2 with SQUAD play AND VoIP !

Anyway, I have fun with BF2, but it comes from the group I game with more than the game itself. And THAT my friends is due to the sorry implementation of the Ranking concept.

              1. if the stats were never implemented would so many people abuse macros?

              2. if the stats werent implemented would there even be a need for the ROE?

              3. if the stats didnt exist would we have so many people like Volx?

              just some food for thought.
