    Ur views on ranking!

Okay i think ranking is great because it gives u something to try and get instead of just playing around.......and it has decreased the amount of tkers too well i know some clans like to just fool around on unranked servers, and i enjoy that but ranking still is ONE of the only things ea did right (which they haven't already fixed by patch:p)

Please No flames and Whats ur opinion:)

You sure about that statement?---> http://www.battlefieldranking.net/

Stats can be viewed in several different ways:
1- Personal goals to attain for a game.
2- An implement used to measure time.
3- To view individual progress, adjusting only when needed.
4- Braggarts crutch to put others down.

In and of themselves stats are not a bad thing. Some people though are hellbent on making them out to be this evil thing that destroys BF2 as a whole. Almost every FPS and MMORPG have a stats system integrated or available. For those old enough to remember the .25 arcade machines of the 80's had "High Scores" where you could place 3 initials and leave your digial mark proclaiming "zoMfG!!! I rox0rz teh big !!111" Games like Everquest for example have "levels", you can level up your powers or whatever after playing a certain amount of time. Other games likeCounter-Strike have local stats, each instance (game server) is recorded on a remote server and can be accessed in game. Even games like poker, your "stats" are measureed by the stacks of poker chips you can rack up. Need I explain the way stats work in professional sports? Look at the extreme emotional investments made by some in the world of International Football (soccer), American Football, etc.

Everyone loves a measurement of progress or performance in a game, to deny this goes against the grain of gaming history. Being competative is intrinsic to human nature. We play to win, we don't always play to "relax". I've never met someone that says "SUPER!! I lost again! YAY!" We are all competative on some level, some take it a bit further than others though.

Knowing how many kills and deaths you have, and overall performance is a great thing to know in this game.

But thats it. Thats all they are good for. Some take it way too far....

I think half of the people that play right now wouldn't play if it weren't for ranking. Who would want to get raped by a J-10 constantly or get a CTD every 2 secs?

Man, I just looked through the pages and pages I have wrote on this site defending the rank system. There was so much, I got tired of trying to quote it all in one space.

But to summize 16 months of though on the ranking system: It is great to have stats/ranks, but there are always children/adults that behave in a manner that stains the end product of the general community.

In a nutshell of that, it is great to beable to look and refect on yourself and how you relate to your peers.

There are places that methodology that could be revised to future ranking programs to greatly discourage exploitation of the game to increase unlocks and badges. If there were a thorough design revision to the whole thing, putting a massive algorithim in place that figured up everything from how many times you joined a squad, to the amount of times you spotted an enemy, the accuracy of your shooting, to the amount of times you picked up someone's kit for a revive, to times you stopped when you had space in a vehicle for one more when they say "requesting a pickup", to defending a CP, to...to...to...to...

That all boils down to: If you made the whole system a massive complex process that people just out of the blue got promoted because of a 100 factors over a certain time, it might be worth a lot more then just time and points.

I cant imagine anyone wanting to play this game for just stats. Sure there great, but I like BF2 cause its fun. Its something new. Its so different from anything I've ever played. However, its not my favourite. Call of Duty 1, was...no is the best online multiplayer game. No stats, just tons of fun. I could play that game for hours not caring about my place on top. But now, few servers have any players and the cheating is a bit much. Cant wait for Cod 3. Maybe EA/Dice should have gone down that road. Fun first, then stats.

Its almost as if they modeled that game around the stats, not the stats around the game.

ea doesnt make battlefield. and in my opinion, theres nothing wrong with ranking, but aside from general gameplay problems the rank problems i have with the game are as follows.

-there should be private only servers and no privates allowed servers.

-equalize the teamwork points. raise the rate you get heal and repair points.

-give points for good squad leading, bomb defusal, exc

-remove the inhouse rules of the roe, they give admins to many grey area rights to do what ever they want, and basically most of the inhouse rules are against what battlefield is about, either fix the game or dont, but dont impose bs rules because you cant fix the game!

-expert armor 400 hours? wtf! how about 150 like jets and helis?

-50 hours of euroforce team? i cant even find a server, let alone get on that team!

i rate how good i'm doing by how good i'm doing

not by numbers from a year ago. is it nice to see improvement? i guess for some - i just play to play.

i think stats killed the fun of bf2

I got news for all you naysayers. The ranking system is the reason why this game is (was) so popular. I'm not saying people wouldn't be playing this game without a ranking system, but there wouldn't be nearly as many, not even close.

LOL, how about the 50 hours per country for Special Forces? Want SAS, 50 hours, Rebels 50 hours....Spetnz 50 hours.

I am waiting for middle of next year when everyone is a highend officer. That is going to be the funniest/saddest thing. :)

the stats system is killing bf2 and keeping it alive. imo it is great. it is nice to keep track of my progress(and sometimes others' too). plus it gives people like Serial Butcher something to live for. however, i cant begin to tell you about how many people ive run into who abuse the stats. the way i see it that the negatives outweigh the positives. please ask yourself:

                            1. if the stats were never implemented would so many people abuse macros?

                            2. if the stats werent implemented would there even be a need for the ROE?

                            3. if the stats didnt exist would we have so many people like Volx?

                            just some food for thought.
