High ping since 1.4

After I got 1.4 installed, I've had pings of 150+ and a frame rate of 8-10. I've reinstalled twice, defragged, and cleaned my registry. I've also updated PunkBuster numerous times. I disconnected my router and am directly connected to the modem. I've tried turning off XP's firewall, Xfire, TeamSpeak. I tried singleplayer, empty multiplayer servers, non-PB servers. You name it, I've tried it.

My last install order is as follows:
(This is after uninstalling, manual deletion of directories, and a registry clean)

BF2 > SF (1.1) > Reboot > 1.4 Full (EA Downloader) > Reboot


Edit: Scratch that, single player works fine.

same problem here, when i'm searching for servers, there are pings over 1.500 and ingame it's playing 'shokky' :S can anybody help?

The server browser pings are always off, but I've noticed that there's a hang now in 1.4 when it updates the server list. In 1.3 I was able to go to my favorites right when it started, but now it hangs and doesn't respond to my click until about 15 seconds later.

Also, I saw that other thread and that one guy's solution of reinstalling video drivers. Tried it. Didn't work.

Just diabled my mcafee and bingo - it works! What sucks is that before 1.4 I had virus protection and firewall working no problem - now apparently I cant! Oh well

Negatory. Still lags.

Might I add.. I have my music volume set to about 30%. When I go to join a server, it plays at 100%. When the map loads and is ready to be joined, and while still at the Join Game screen, there is a terrible screech that sounds like it tried to play every voice over since the match started. Then it lags.

I hate to double-post, but it does the exact same thing in the 2142 Beta. I've tried playing both Counter-Strike:Source and RtCW: Multiplayer, and they both run like a breeze.

i got same problem here...ever since the 1.4 update my pings have been through the roof! EA = Thieves!

I have problems on servers in Europe. I never had problems on those servers before. I guess I have to stay around my area to play.

I must agree with all you guys. There is something terribly wrong with this new 1.4 patch. I can also no longer find servers with a ping < 100. I either get servers with a ping of 0, or I get servers with a ping of 150 or greater.

I used to be able to find servers with pings anywhere from 30 to 100 before this patch.

I hope some solution is found to this extremely irritating issue.

This game for me has always showed twice the ping in the C/P as what it actually is, I'm guessing it has something to do with it going through Game Spy. If I tracert and ping the server they show half what the game is actually at, and if i enter a game they drop by half. Can you get to your GameSpy account ok?.

Yeah, but my problem is that the game is unplayable. My ping in game is 150+. I don't use GameSpy or Xfire to join my server.

I was trying to determine if maby your ISP is blocking some needed ports because their being spammed. If they block one of the needed ports to GameSpy or the game it could be interfering with authentication or gaming. It looks like you tryed everything else.


EDIT: Might be time to call the ISP and see if their blocking any thing or having issues like DOS attacks or line problems.

Im getting the same Prob, I always play the same server with my son we are both on a home network, my ping and system lag to hell and back his is fine...

WTF...the server is euro so are we?
