    Balance, whining, BF2 and POE2

Simple question- how far will POE2 crew go on the road of changing the game just because some people cannot handle the challenge? The obvious question is the "balance" issue. Im pretty sure there will be some issues people will complain about in POE2. What are you going to do about it?

I already see the bigger picture and balance in the bigger picture and Im pleased that POE2 crew did not take the easy way to implement the "rock paper scissor" balance with the simple "measure and countermeasure" system.

This isnt a discussion topic, this is a question from POE2 devs only.

How far will you go to please the people (while changing the game you created)?

Im going to be making significant hardware upgrades just to run POE2. Never has a game motivated me to spend an extra buck on my PC (Im running a low end system) and I want to know if POE2 will follow BF2s course.

Thank you. Youve created an amazing game. I have NOT been a believer, but from what Ive seen and tried so far, this game is everything Ive wanted in a game so far.

We take great pride in listening to the community playing it.

We have always listened to the fans and try to implement suggestions/commnets that are within reason of course.

If your asking if we'll change something just because there is 1-5 guys complaining about a certain thing. the answer is no. There has to be a overwhelming request/complaint for us to go changing something.
We will however adjust anything the fans really dislike/or suggest.,that has overwhelming support from the community.

EX: The Anit-tank kits/RPG's are being looked at as i type this. Due to a 4 page thread in our forums.

If you all want a say in the next installment/patch. I would head over to the official PoE2 forums. Post your complaints/comments/suggestions there in the proper sub forum.

Once the stats system come out you will see a major jump. For some reason people are too obsessed with rank and stats. I'd actually like to see a stats system more in the way of BFTracks.

Sauron, that is ALL that poe is intended to have, no more. We will not do 'ranks' or rewards, just statistics.

Thank you, this is all I needed to know. :)
            This sattisfies me completely.

As for stats, no matter what shape or form, no matter what system, if it is tracking statistics of your round, there will be severe consequences regarding the gameplay. You guys think its the ribbons rank and badges, but its not. Its the numbers. Once you implement a stat tracker pay close attention to how the game is changing, and I mean very close attention. Once you see a change, youll notice that the stats do affect gameplay.

Although stats are a nice thing to have and see, this will impact the game as many, many people will have a personal goal rather than the team goal, in game.

One thing Ive noticed that somewhat limits this is the information display delay. If the tracker updates the information every 10 days, people who had interest in the tracker initially will lose interest in it alltogether.

Anyway, my question has been answered, thank you.

Im pretty sure thats all you are able to do, correct?

Can you have ranks and rewards given the current system. Im sure DICE has some say in the matter, big brother only gives out as much help as they feel is necessary, right?

P.S. Ranks, and rewards stink, and all amture players no this, glad POE isnt heading in that direction, even if you could.

I dont think its an issue at all bro, there are lots of people playing POE2. Those that will only play with an advnced tracking system, well, you can keep those hose blowers off the same poe servers I am on, thank you very much.

Thanks good then. I like the BFTracks way of doing things because they rank everyone on a pretty fair scale, more than just who has the most points. Hopefully it's enough to satisfy the stats crazed guys.

Re: Balance, whining, BF2 and POE2

Ack..stats...it will change the way people play towards one thing...getting better stats. Since stats are built upon a point system that is very poorly designed, the impact on gameplay is going to happen accordingly.

For example: when players adjust their gameplay to optimize their kill/death ratio, they are setting a personal objective higher than the game-objective. This means that they make choices based on how this or another action is going to affect their K/D ratio, instead of "what's the most effective way I can act right now to further my teams goal of achieving victory".

Ways to improve your K/D ratio: Exclusively use the most powerful vehicles in game and always bail out of it when it goes to about 1/3 health. This translates into gameplay like this: Regardless of the need of your teammates, you bail to save yourself from death. TK'ing to get vehicles. Always playing it "safe" - taking fewer chance and sticking with what works. Focus on kills over flags. Etc. etc.

It's basic (sub)human psychology and of course this stat-addiction is what EA is using to hook players. I wish POE 2 would not stoop to the same level.

                  Cheers :-)

PoE2 WILL NOT HAVE RANKS it will have STATS BUT NOT RANKS do you un derstand the diffrence. you will NOT recieve any badges, medals or promotions. they will jsut be there to record how well or bad you preform in a game. most people only try to get points and kills for rank so if there is no rank stats wont matter

Do you think its the ranks that affect the peoples gameplay only? Think again. Read the post before yours, thats a spot on right there.

People like Ranks because they come up next to their name and give them a sense of pride and accomplishment and the medals look nice. But just seeing your K ratio will not affect the gameplay much. most stat whore will do anything to get to the highest rank but not to have a 4:1 k/d ratio.

Stats and ranks are 2 diffrent things.

Ranks and ribbons are no different from stats. Its not about SEEING your KDR, its about playing to improve it. Most statwhores would do anything to get that KDR and NOT that rank. Why? Your prime example is Volx.

Medals, ranks and ribbons are secondary to score, KDR, and personal battlestatistics because people play ot improve those said stats. And to improve them one has to play harder, on a personal level.

EDIT: Why else are they called "statpadders", "statwhores" and whatnot. You think a medic in Karkand who has all the ribbons and medals is playing for not stats? Think again.

I think the POE team needs to explain the statistics and how they will be presented.

If its like BF2Tracker or BFHQ where you can see who is the top sniper, top tank whore, top chopper whore, and etc. then Chris is correct.

                            It will change the game...
