If you need a large repair your best bet is to land on the runway (or hover over it if you're in the F35).

You are a sitting duck if you land, I suggest you fly-by the runway/carrier until you fully repair. Remember, landing and being idle on the airfield can be a primary target for enemy jets scouting for preys

Just keep the nose up when landing and keep practising. It's hardly ever useful though.

You can land it.
You can keep flying over the runway.
You can land it somewhere relatively flat, and repair it yourself with your engineer kit.
You can Just crash and it'll respawn in full health.
