    C`mon Chris, I do say:"Ohhh,Snap". :p

I DO NOT play for stats, I play just for FUN and you can ask anyone I`ve played with. I DO LOOK after my stats probably once a month just to see where I can improve, as someone already stated before, so with the risk of repeating myself, JUST TO IMPROVE ...

Ya but how many people are playing it?

When I say it'd be dead already, I mean like under 2000 players.

    --

I found 2,167 playing BF V. Thats dead. Diablo 2 still has like 15 000 and its been out over 2 yrs longer.

Umm, BF42 didnt have a ranking sytem and yet people are still playing it...4 years later. If the gameplay is good, you wont need any sort of "bribe" to continue playing it.

Can you imagine what the message boards would look like without all the posts about uberness and ownage and massive stats bragging and fix this/that? It would be like, "Hey I played a great game of BF2 today... my team was awesome and we won the round by 3 tickets! Man what teamwork!" .....sigh

Ranking system in any shape or form will alter the gameplay. Because once you die, most probably you dont think "oh snap", but "oh KDR". The key to successful gameplay is to create ranking system that promotes teamplay. If people play for points, then make it so certain actions and choices in game give more points.

Like that popular image of ape in a wheel running to get that banana.

Some people use the ranking system to show off how good they are.

Some people use the ranking system as a chance to aspire to gaming greatness.

Some people use the ranking system to find out their weaknesses, and to better themselves.

Some people use the ranking system as a scapegoat.

i think the rank system was a bad idea untill the gameplay was perfect, and the rank system was perfect. so basically i think they should have done a trial of the rank system for the first year and then reset everything when the gameplay/ranks were perfect.

but they made thier money, so they dont care now.

I also think that players would be less selfish and teamwork would be more prevalent. However the excitement and feeling of accomplishment would be diminished without the bonus of unlocks & ranking up-

    Re: Do you think?

It was a good idea, but failed miserably. The ranks, and most requirements to get them are based solely on time and points. It's just a matter of time to farm the points needed to get the next rank.

What they need to do is change it (at least for 2142) to where it's not based soley on points. But a combination of points, flag caps, flag assists, flag defends, weapoin proficiency (skilled in multiple weapon classes), k/d overall, time played, points per round, maps played (more maps = better ranking points). And any other thing I missed.

Take all those, apply a formula and you get a true ranking system. Not one that a person who does nothing but run around 1 map with his shock paddles out is the best. When someone who is 10 times better, is great at teamwork, helps where he is needed etc... is ranked a lot lower.

They base the whole systems' "integrity" on points, then get pissed off when people stat pad. It doesn't take a genious to look ahead and see that that will be a problem. But it's DICEA we're talking about.

    Re: Do you think?

Take in example America's Army ..
There you don't have to check your stats, you don't have unlocks or stuff and, as you can see, there aren't ppl that teamkill but there aren't planes to take :P

I agree with Kold81 but the servers could include some script like:
    - A teamkills B, A takes a veichle by 10 seconds (in a base): warning.
The second time that he does something like that: kick. (We can use the same algorithm for players that steal the kits)

This, IMHO, could be a good solution to avoid or contain tk.

Ah .. instead of kicking, the server could remove 20 points, 50, 100, 500, 1000.
