    Ship Battles/Movement

If you guys have played BF 1942, you would noticed that you could drive ships, fire the 19" guns on them, in BF2, you can't even move the friggin assault carrier! The AA guns on the Essex is a sitting duck as most threads have post about. Why don't EA make something like this happen? With ship battles??

look at it this way: When you play titan mode in 2142, you could move your titan next to the other guy's titan and there you go, ship battles.

With the engine in BF2, it is very difficult to have vehicles on top of other vehicles (i.e. planes on top of carriers). To demostrate, let me ask what happens when you drop a car on a tank? They asplode, right? So the Essex is just a static object, like a runway on the ground.

They were also going to include a large hovercraft that had vehicles on it, but that was scrapped due to the engine's inadequacy too.

I'm talking of BF1942 and BF2 ok??? Not the all-new BF2142!! If EA had released the game about 4 months later than it was, then I bet it could do that.

P.S. The Titans DO NOT do ship engagements!

            Forget ship-to-ship fighting..

I think it would have been cool tho, to allow commanders to select certain positions (or waypoints) that the ship can move to, but keep it restricted to maybe 4-5 set points on the map to limit any exploit potentials that might come from unrestricted ship movement.. that way enemy bombers wouldn't always automatically know where the ship is in order to line up repeat bombing runs.

If you have played BF 1942 in a bomber bombing ships, it was fun. Of course the AA guns return fire...

This is such an old issue.:dead:

If u look at the maps in BF2, none of them resemble that of Coral Sea or Midway. There much smaller and more land based. Naval battles are basically impossibe. U want huge battles in the water? Get some friends in a rubber dingy.

I agree with having the ability to move the ship, also I would like to be able to back my hummv to the arty and haul it to another location. Then peeps would have to to some recon to find those objects.

U guys dont seem to get it. NO NAVAL BATTLES IN BF2!!!! Its a completely different engine from BF 1942. U kno what that means? ^^^^. Let me guess, the first time u got on a carrier, you ran around it pressing E and asking how do I drive the carrier.

The naval battles in BF42 were a good concept on paper, but never really worked above destroyer level. The ships were just too big - hell, you couldn't even see from one end of the battleship to the other b/c of fog.

I read somewhere (dont know if it's accurate or not) that EA made somkind of a poll during the development of BF2 asking abut the Naval Battles.

The result was: only 10% of the BF1942 players really enjoy the naval battles. So, no navy for BF2...

I really miss the PoW Battle Ship.. awesome fire power and insane AA guns. Oooho Midway.. what an excelent map.
